ED 2017 Deferrals

I thought I would start a thread for all the deferrals to discuss with one another. Do any of you plan to submit supplemental information?

I’m submitting January SATs and a much better transcript, but I just don’t know what else to send ;-(

I’m submitting an art supplement… I feel like I really emphasized a ton of my dance, and they never really got to see it, so I think that’s what they might want…
I’m also probably gonna call them up tomorrow and see what I can do to get in, because Columbia’s been my dream school since middle school, and I’m devastated I didn’t get in.
I know no one likes hearing a sob story, so I’m sorry for ranting out to you guys.

idk yet. deferral acceptance rate is quite low right? i pretty much considered this a rejection lol i was pretty bummed

@Iamnotok

You’ve shown everyone on this board why Columbia made the right choice to reject you.

Instead of moving on like everyone else, you have to bash Affirmative Action, when in reality, it didn’t affect you in the slightest.

You need to realize that you may have had higher test scores and GPA, but the reality is those who got accepted were better fits for Columbia.

Best of luck to you in the rest of your college admissions, hopefully you don’t show this same pity party you’ve thrown for yourself in your essays. Realize that those who AA may have had an effect on, deserved 100% to get into those schools. Don’t try and take that away from them because you didn’t get in.

Anyone here think a 2230 SAT is worth trying to retake? I always thought it was a little on the low side and kind of regret not retaking it. I know a lot of factors other than SAT’s went into Columbia’s decision to defer me so retaking it for a high score won’t be a guarantee for admission. Just wondering whether retaking the SAT’s is even worth the effort.

I am a deferred student too. Does anyone know the admission rates of deferred students at Columbia? As far as I know, at least 300 odd get deferred each year. So what are the chances? Submitting additional updated information will definitely help right? :)

@rosario1994: I think that this score is good enough. As long as you are above 2200, you should be fine. But there is definitely no harm in trying again. All the best and up to you! :)

Good to know that there is a thread for deferrals. At least we can discuss now. Thanks for creating one @woopycshion! :)

Is it alright to add things that you forgot to mention on the app in a new letter, like going to nationals and state tournaments twice for a club sport? I mean, I’d add it alongside some new stuff like creating a fundraiser and becoming captain of a varsity sport. Will it look like I was too careless to mention it? I’m probably over analyzing this but whatever.

got deferred…trying to convince myself columbia isn’t that great after all

Apply to the University of Chicago. It’s not as interesting a place. The teaching is better than at Columbia. There’s less snobbery too.

It’s not that Columbia isn’t a fine school. It’s that there are plenty of other great schools and you should get over not getting accepted to Columbia.
