ED Admission Being Revoked?

Hi, I just received my admission to Duke via Early Decision and I'm extremely happy, but I'm also a bit nervous because of the acceptance letter. As you guys know, it has that stipulation towards the end that if you do not maintain your academic standard, they can revoke or review your admission. I wanted to know if my situation could end up like that.

I have never gotten a B before, and the First Quarter grades that I sent to Duke were all A's. However, I have my midterms this week and, due to a combination of difficult classes and senioritis, my grades are borderline on B+'s. If I were to end up with grades like this:
in my 7 classes, would my admission be reviewed? My guidance counselor was telling me that even 1 B+ would be enough to possibly ruin my chances, but I just couldn't bring myself to believe this. I find it hard to believe that they would revoke my admission after I had to withdraw my applications from all my other schools due to the ED agreement. That would essentially ruin my life. So basically, if I were to get these 4 B+'s, would Duke really review and possibly rescind my app, or am I safe?
Thank you so much!

No, I don’t think so. And your counselor is definitely mistaken, one B+ will not get rescinded. The rule is to avoid, Ds, Fs, and felonies (and multiple Cs). Of course, you should just do the best you can.

@guineagirl96‌ Thank you. That’s what I was thinking as well. I’m not in any fear of getting a C this semester, so I’ll just do my best, but your response relieved a lot of my stress.

You’ll be fine. To summarize:

 • Very few C’s
 • No D’s or F’s
 • No suspensions, expulsions, felonies or misdemeanors

Revocation is not certain for the foregoing issues, but don’t take any risks.

You would not be revoked even for straight B’s. Congrats on your admission!

I don’t think you would be revoked… however, as soon as you can, snap out of your senioritis… not just for keeping your acceptance but so that you are in good shape for freshman year. :slight_smile:

LOL, calm down. Is your GC new or something? Your “chances” are up, you are admitted.

I have heard of Harvard revoking an acceptance for a D.

That is IT barring committing a crime. Enjoy your senior year, try to get As but don’t despair if you get B’s. And don’t commit any crimes.

Well, @rhandco‌, that’s not entirely true (although I generally agree with you). Last year (there’s a LONG thread concerning this on their 2018 Forum), Dartmouth “suspended” a senior’s admission, requiring him to wait until September 2015 to matriculate, for “seniorities.” However, what was indicated in my earlier post (#3) is more likely.

Not to encourage this but I received 3 C’s my last semester of high school and am now about to graduate top of my class in Pratt this May. You’re good.

@cornetking222 What’s your major?
