ED Hopkins - Transfer to Cornell for ChemBE

Hello,

I’m a current high school senior who was accepted via ED to Johns Hopkins University for Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering; however, I’m currently having extensive second thoughts. Watching all of my other friends get into UPenn, Brown and Cornell, among others, made me realize that I really just lowballed to an Ivy reject school. Living in the shadow of a father who is a multimillionaire MIT PhD alum doesn’t make anything easier. I’m really feeling like a failure these days and want to set my life back in the right direction. Thus, I am considering transferring to Cornell or UPenn for ChemBE.

However, I’m not sure how much more well-regarded the program is at Cornell compared to Hopkins. Could anyone please clarify? Thank you.

Johns Hopkins has not been an “Ivy reject” school for many, many years. By almost any metric out there, JHU and Cornell are equally prestigious. I don’t care much for rankings, but if this matters to you, US News ranks JHU at 10 and Cornell at 15 for National Universities. And the BME program at Hopkins is very highly regarded.

But it is time to stop labeling yourself a failure and defining yourself by things like your school’s perceived prestige. You can have an amazing educational experience at Hopkins if you embrace it. Enjoy the journey, discover what you love, and you will find both happiness and success in life.
