Lehigh is my #1 school, and im curious how well i fare in the admissions process.
I guess im your basic above-average student
ACT: 31
SAT: 1380
UGPA: 3.3
WGPA: 4.3
Im an IBCP (Certificate Programme) student taking IB Math Studies and IB English Literature
I will have taken 20 credits of Dual Enrollment total at my local community college
I also took 3 AP classes: Environmental Science (3), World History (2), and Microeconomics (3)
I have a decent amount of extracurriculars and sports;
3 Years Varsity wresrling (2 of which was captain, went to State Competition in my weight class)
1 year Varsity Swimming
4 years computer academy
2 years Computer Club
40 hr/week summer job and 20 hr/week school year job
My essays are strong, probably 8/10
Where i stand out is in work experience; I plan on majoring in computer engineering, and ive had about a year of experience working in IT troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining computers for my local school district. I also have a list of 12 professional certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Aruba) that were offered by my school through a computer academy program.
Although I am a Caucasian male from a family with a history of college
What are my chances at Lehigh for early decision II in computer engineering? What about a business major such as information systems?
Thank you!!
Wow! You have a fantastic record! Yes, you should apply to Lehigh! I don’t think the GPA as important as all the practical experience you have. You are so self motivated -Lehigh will be very impressed with that! Your application really stands out - to me anyway. I think Lehigh would be very lucky to have you! But honestly, no one can tell you what your statistical chances are to getting admitted. Because Lehigh’s class is so small all the admission officers get together and vote and choose the students together. In my mind I imagine it is sort of like building a deck of cards. There are only so many slots for Computer Science. But, personally I would GUESS you have a really strong chance of getting accepted. Congratulations to you for all the work you have done preparing yourself for your college and your career.
Have you visited the campus - if you live close by? You did not mention how you have demonstrated your interest in Lehigh. That is important!
Good luck to you and keep us posted!!!
kikkydee, thank you, you seem to know Lehigh very well! I live in Florida, so visiting the campus is very impractical. This is one reason i think applying early decision would be beneficial, as it is my best way to demonstrate interest at this time. Another aspect that could play a positive part is my essay for Lehigh. For the “What do you and Lehigh have in common?”, I wrote about my hometown, also named Lehigh, and drew many parallels in the diverse and opportunistic community.
Something else i took into account is my chances of getting accepted per major. Computer engineering is my preferred major over information systems, but I know it is much more competitive. Should i just apply for information systems, or would Lehigh offer me an alternate major if i get deferred to Computer Engineering?
My son went to Lehigh. I loved the school so much I like to stay on the CC site and try to help the students. So I really only know what happened to my son. I am not any kind of expert. I did spend time reading Lehigh’s Course Catalog! haha. And I do google a bit to find info for questions.
In my opinion, I would focus on the computer science if that is your area of interest. I seem to be a super strong computer science candidate.
Hey, if you live in Florida you have made your application even stronger with the geographic diversity element added to your application. Lehigh does have a goal to have students from all 50 states! Of course they would understand you can’t visit. Your reasoning for an Early Application is good. But you do realize ED is binding and you are agreeing to accept whatever financial aid package they offer you. If you and your family are in a financial position to accept whatever financial offer you are given then ED would absolutely be good option for you. -My son did not want to apply ED so I do not have any personal experience here.
I would recommend you call your Lehigh admissions counselor and see if you could have a phone interview or if there was an Lehigh alum in the area you could meet with. Okay, have you seen the 2010 Lehigh Lipdub on youtube? It is a charming tour of the campus.
Good luck and keep us posted!

2021,
Wow, 740 Math? Fantastic! 600 Reading - I do not think they expect applicants to be gifted in all areas. Yeah, my son had about the same GPA. You are building 3D printers and Crypto Currency Miners? Wow! Yes, just like I said in the earlier post, Lehigh is going to love how self motivated you are. It is a very impressive application. Of course, here is where I do the one can tell you your chances speech … haha. But, my GUESS is you have an excellent chance of being accepted.
So have you visited the campus? Or if you live far away have you contacted the school? You didn’t mention your demonstrated interest element which is always important.
Do you understand with an ED2 application whatever, if any, financial aid you get is okay. You are choosing to forfeit evaluating other financial aid offers.
Hey, can you provide us with a link to see your Christmas light show online? I love those!
Best of luck and please keep us posted!!!
I live 1 state away, so I did visit over the summer. I am applying for financial aid, and it is something my family are seriously looking at. I know that if I am applying for financial aid and I apply ED, I can get out of the binding agreement if the numbers do not work for my family, but I was unaware of needing to forfeit evaluating other financial aid offers.
I was hesitant to apply ED at first, but honestly writing my essay for Lehigh made me realize how much I want to go there. I think that I need any help I can get to get in.
Hmmm. you do realize most schools offer ED programs. And when you are accepted ED at a school the other schools know about it. As a professional courtesy schools do not go around trying to pick off each others ED students. Once other schools find out you have walked away from a ED offer do not expect them to be lining up to give you the best financial aid package they can possibly give you. They may even choose to rescind their finanical offer. You backed out of your commitment so it opens the door of their other schools to back out of their financial offers too.
I wouldn’t have your first action defining your academic career be walking out of a binding agreement.
If financial aid is an important part of your decision wait until regular admissions. My son waited. It was like Christmas seeing what offers you were given. We knew we did not qualify for financial aid. But we were offered some merit scholarships.
Why don’t you talk your Lehigh admission counselor? Address your financial aid needs. You are going to be working with them the kext 4 years - this is is the time to start! Best of luck to you and keep us posted.
