ED in NY?

Who is applying ED to dartmouth from westchester? This is probably like the most competitive area in the country for ivies so I was just wondering how many people were going for dartmouth.
i am. :)

um i disagree that westchester is the “most competitive area for ivies”

Why is Westchester the most competitive?

sorry for saying it was the most… but it is definitely top 5.

I’d have to agree it’s near the top.

Hi, I’m an ED Dartmouth Westchester applicant. Briarcliff High School. We have one other from my school applying as well.

btw twinkletoes, do you do NYSSMA stuff? I saw you in the music supplement thread also =P

I’m a ED Dartmouth Westchester (White Plains High) applicant.

sherlock… were you at Area All State this year?
I saw on your chance me
I was in the soprano section :D

I’d say that the north shore of Long Island is just as bad…

Westchester is pretty bad. I live in the northern part of the county, so I’m slightly segregated from the Scarsdale/Edgemont competition but still have to deal with Horace Greeley and some other decent schools.

I’m not applying ED, but am RD.

And for the person who asked why Westchester is the most competitive:

Westchester is intense mostly because it is a suburban county with many high-(in some cases very high-)income areas, which in turn have excellent school systems and therefore produce more top-notch applicants (e.g. the schools named above). Most parents in these areas are looking for name-brand schools (i.e. Ivies) and may in fact be graduates of those schools themselves. A great deal of pressure is directed toward the kids, who then apply to many “prestigious” universities, including Dartmouth, but especially Cornell, HYP, UChicago, and Columbia. Granted, many of these kids are worthy of spots at such schools, but the mere volume of their collective applications makes the area extremely competitive at the top colleges, which cannot accept 25 kids from the same school – no less 500 kids from the same region.

Ahhhhhhhhh

imaia24, I was in the Bass II section! this is so weird ahahahah

If you went to White Plains, then I was the Bass who stood next to Zach during the concert if that gives you any idea. =P

“international” is most competitive.

I wasn’t in the White Plains AAS, but is anyone headed to NY All State this weekend? (I one of the ED from NY people.)

Hey! Yeah, I’m going to rochester for all state too. What ensemble are you in? I’m a bass 2 for the mixed chorus

A2 Women’s…We’ll probably see each other in passing. Last year there was a big snow storm Sunday morning, so let’s hope this year’s is slightly less uneventful! I’m excited, though. :)

A friend with knowledge of D admissions reports the percentage of accepted applicants from Westchester, Long Island, Manhatttan, Northern NJ and Greenwich CT & environs has been dropping (disproportionately) in the last few years and by design as Dartmouth seeks a more geographically balanced student body. Less so, interestingly, for New England.

sherlock
i was literally right behind you
crazy

Ahahhahahaha!

That’s so funny. Small small small world. =DDD
