When do you think the DP will list ED percentages of admit/defer/deny?

they won’t really tell u, but i figured it out last year, it’s not hard to do the math, its 1/3 accept, 1/3 reject, 1/3 deferred. If you are deferred, your chances of being accpeted in the Spring are like 10 percent. G Luck!

think its 15%

i know it is, it’s what my screen said

once everyone get’s their stats up, I’ll do it with yeti beast for CC

cujoe, u were deferred by engineering? Are you applying to cornell engineering?

yea… i guess, but i really liked penn better sigh guess they didn’t share the same idea, u?

i am a student at Cornell in the College of Arts/Sciences. I applied ED to Penn last year, only to be deferred, then rejected. I was admitted in RD round to Duke, Hopkins, Chicago, rice, Northwestern, and Cornell. A deferal from Penn will lead to good things man, even if it’s not at Penn. The ppl that were rejected may not face the same luck.

i wouldn’t mind cornell or jhu, but penn was my no. 1

bball87, what do you mean when you say a deferral from Penn will lead to good things when rejectees may not have the same luck? Is there a common trend among deferees from Penn? (Like academics, ECs, etc.)

um deferred candidates usually tend to be strong students. Its not a guarantee, but deferred students at Penn have a great chance at other top schools, as seen with me, and 2 kids in my school that were deferred ED, one ended up at columbia, the other duke, and me cornell. If your rejected, it doesn’t mean ur not gonna get in anywhere, but Penn selects their kids very carefully and if you got deferred, it means u were good enough for them to keep you around.

Best of luck,

bball87, that’s what I suspected, but I couldn’t be too sure.

Can I ask what you did to strengthen your application to Penn after ED decisions? Did you write a new essay, recs, etc.? Or were you already set to move onto the next school and didn’t do much?

dude, i got rejected in the RD round. I wrote Penn 2 letters after my deferral how much I still wanted to go and I also had my g.counselor call them up. My regional rep actually “supposedly left” after one year. My school had great connections with Penn until last year, they took 0 ED and this year, 2 kids got in ED. I am convinced this guy last year did not help my chances much.

bball87, I’m getting mixed perspectives on this. It feels like some people are telling me to cool it and send grades and stuff in but don’t be obsessive, while other advice sounds like I should call my regional director at least 5 times, write a letter, more essays, etc.

After reading about your 2 letters, I’m feeling more and more discouraged about my chances of getting in during the RD round. SIGH

i think maybe people are saying to make contact around five times, fairly evenly, between now and mid-feb-ish?

-GC call
-Extra Essay
-Personal Call
-New award/EC
-Another Essay

something like that?

hmm… did the first… gonna do the second… gonna do the third… i might win at debate finally… 2 essays? now that’s excessive

someone on another thread said that their kid did 2 essays and got in
