ED what SAT I score do I need for WashU?

Assuming my 2-3 B’s and all other A’s and “no financial aid needed” status, what SAT I score do I need? (international non-native–not int.school)
Thanks!

2200 is a good goal but higher is better.

what? 2200?
Good-Bye WashU…

no, i think a 2160ish is a good goal. i only took the ACT but thats about equivalent to my score and i got in ED

I got in ED with a 33 ACT which is ~2180-2220 SAT. I only took the SAT once and got a 1900 (too lazy to take again) so take whatever test you feel most comfortable with multiple times.

2150+ SAT, or 32+ ACT will make you competitive ED (people certainly get in with lower scores, but it is less common).

look at WashU ED decisions thread for this year and last year and you can see who was accepted with what SAT/ACT score.

I am not sure you understood me well. I am an international student and english is not my first language nor I study in it.

The SAT is for natives–I am not. That’s why I take TOEFL.

The framing of your question is a fallacy because it presumes that one needs a certain score to be accepted. Wash U’s middle 50% range is like a 2100 - 2300 (give or take a bit), with the exact median about a 2200. As always, the higher score the better, but I’d say once you are in the 2200s you have a decent shot (provided everything else looks good), and if you are in the 2000 - 2100 range, you’ll have a significantly harder time.

Certainly, 50% of the students here have below a 2200-ish, but unless you have some sort of “hook,” your score should be at least at the median to stand a fare shot.

You might have a little more cushion since you are applying ED, but I doubt it’s significant. Even more, no college in Wash U’s group makes decisions solely on test scores, so even if you have a 2300+, there’s no guarantee you’ll be accepted.

Honestly, there are bunch of international students with 2200+ SAT score…and almost perfect TOEFL score.
And of course their native language is not English.
Colleges like Washu assume that internatioanl students who apply to Washu speak almost perfect or very decent English. So if you think 2200 is too high for international student, you should find out other colleges.

those "internationals ain’t really “internationals”. They probably go to international school wherever they live. So I see no difference between them and natives. However, I don’t go to the international school and thus, I study in my native language which is far from english. So I think that university should understand my situation. I have 88 TOEFL score and 1710 SAT I.

I understand your point that it is much harder for someone not educated in English to score well on the SAT. However, there are plenty of international applicants with high SAT scores, and selective schools like WashU get plenty of high scoring international applicants, and a very low acceptance rate. A 1710 SAT score puts you very far below the 25th percentile of WashU enrolled students.

You would be better off looking at less selective schools, where your SAT score is above the 25th percentile, or better yet, the 50th percentile. To be blunt, I think you would be wasting your one ED change with WashU. ED may provide a slight admissions boost, but isn’t going to be enough to get an applicant with scores outside of the normal range accepted.

I’ve never seen any data suggesting that accepted international student applicants have lower average SAT scores than accepted US applicants at selective schools. On the other hand, admissions advantages are given to legacies, athletes, under-represented minorities, and first generation college students, and so those hooked students would likely have lower average SAT scores. Accepted students with SAT scores in the lower range are probably over-represented by students with those types of hooks.

Even though you feel you’ve had to overcome more challenges than other international students, the fact that your SAT score is 1710 means that Wash U just isn’t the right school for you. Maybe you have more potential than other students since you’ve been at more of a disadvantage, but at the present time I think you should look at less selective universities.

I agree with you, guys. I will search for another school. Thanks for everything!
