ED2 Agreement

If I were accepted to NYU Stern but wasn’t offered any financial aid and therefore couldn’t afford to go could I easily back out of the agreement? My parents think they would be able to pay the full tuition but things are so unclear with the economy and such that they aren’t positive and I’ll have two other siblings in college next year so I dont know…

“Students will only be released from the Early Decision agreement if they believe their estimated financial aid package does not enable them to attend. Students must be aware that applying Early Decision will not enable them to compare financial aid packages from other universities. If comparing financial aid packages will be necessary for a student, the student should apply under our Regular Decision program. NYU will still reserve the majority of our admission offers for students applying for Regular Decision, so students should not feel pressure to apply Early Decision if finances are of concern.”
(From their website)
If you demonstrate reasonable inability or uncertainty about being able to afford it, you’re allowed to back out.

It’s actually “believe” instead of “demonstrate.”

To state that you have a belief that, is to demonstrate.

Ok, sorry, I thought you meant that additional financial data must be presented, which is not required.

Thanks for the feedback.
So you don’t have to send financial documents to prove your inability to pay or anything?

Correct. Imagine for a moment that you had to send more documents as proof, but they didn’t accept your proof. What then? Would you have to attend, and then be expelled when you couldn’t pay your bill? That’s why no proof is necessary, plus, they already have all your financial data they need to decide.

They really mean “… if they believe …” as quoted above. NYU is well aware that their financial aid is considered not so good, and they expect that many can’t afford it.
