Edith Minturn “Edie” Sedgwick (April 20, 1943 – November 16, 1971) was an American actress, socialite, fashion model and heiress. She is best known for being one of Andy Warhol’s superstars. Sedgwick became known as “The Girl of the Year” in 1965 after starring in several of Warhol’s short films in the 1960s. She was dubbed an “It Girl”, while Vogue magazine also named her a “Youthquaker”.

I read an article about the family about a year or two ago, but can’t remember what paper it was in. At that time, if I recall, four of the Sedgwick siblings were still alive, one brother and three sisters. One sister was living in NY and the other three were in California. This was a very dysfunctional family that was rife with a long history of mental illness. Apparently, the father, Francis, who was bipolar was advised never to have children. He went on to have eight, most of whom suffered similar problems.

Funny, I reread that book earlier this year also…found it in a box of favorite books in the basement that I had been “dragging” around my entire adult life. That whole era was fascinating and we forget what is was really like because of all the made for TV movies about the era.
