EDII Advice

Greetings,

I am currently a senior at a competitive private school, and I’m seeking advice on choosing an EDII school.

I understand that an early decision contract is binding, and that I should only apply to a school early if I am sure that I will have no regrets going to the school. The schools I’m deliberating fulfill that requirement, and I’m sure I’ll have a great education at any of the schools.

The schools I’m considering are Tufts, Harvey Mudd, Emory, and Vanderbilt.

The problem is that I have a mismatch between my SAT scores (2350, 800 on the Math IIC and Physics subject tests) and my GPA (3.2). I take a fairly rigorous courseload–vector calculus, an English seminar class, AP physics, and a few electives, but 3.2 is still fairly low for schools I mentioned above.

As a prospective physics major, which school do you recommend I apply EDII? I understand that the quality of education I receive will be great regardless of where I go, but I want to know your take on which school I have the best shot at (a bit arbitrary, I know) Thanks for you help in advance.

“a prospective physics major” Take a flyer at Harvey Mudd despite your grades, if you honestly believe you can handle their program. HMC may just factor in that the grades are from “a competitive private school”

Tufts, Emory or Vandy for physics? hmmm

I would not recommend Emory for physics. Perhaps owing to our proximity to Georgia Tech, the physics/math/comp sci programs are quite weak here
