Can you expand/explain more about your extracurriculars? For example, did you hold leadership positions in any activities?

Speed-skating (Co-President)
- I became co-president of LESA, a student volunteer program in which we trained younger children, (generally in the elementary to middle school range) as well as the mentally disabled, to speed-skate. As well as being a trainer, my responsibilities included the allocation of service hours to our numerous volunteers
Intern
-I assisted the parents of a mentally handicapped child, functioning as his chaperone throughout the day. I was also charged with transporting him to and from his social training.

Okay so well your speed skating is gonna really stand out but I would not advise you to put the internship on your app because you only interned for them for one day. Unless I’m mistaken, but I would count that as a volunteer opportunity if you were thinking about putting it on your application…

I probably should’ve reworded that. I intern for them every Saturday for 3+ years.
Do you think I have a good chance of getting in if I EDII?

Personally, I think it’s really going to come down to your essays and recommendations, but particularly the essays. They’re interested in making a well-rounded student body, and the speed skating stands out a lot in my opinion because you seem so involved with it. This aspect of you, along with the essays, will probably help a lot.

Also, I know you said to chance you for Emory, but I’m pretty sure that if you were to apply to Oxford, you’d get accepted. Emory’s a little bit more iffy, but I think you still have a good shot.

Check the official ED I result thread. Students who got accepted posted their status there :)

Well no because ED 2 has a lower acceptance rate than ED 1. Work on the essays. They will really make you stand out

Honestly I think you have no chance for the Emory College of Arts and Sciences. If you skate in really competitive competitions like go to state competitions and receive high remarks/medals then you have a much higher chance. But if not, then I suggest Oxford College.

Oxford College might still not take you. Their average unweighted gpa is a 3.55. Yours is a 2.9. I doubt they’ll accept anyone under a 3.0 gpa. Your SAT scores are also bad (with the exception of math). Both your reading and writing scores are below the 25% they accepted. Your math is above the 75% but that won’t help because they look at the Math and Reading together. So that averages it out a bit, but not really. Next is your extracurricular activities. I don’t see anything too special. It seems like you’re athletic and committed but that’s all it shows. Sports don’t really stand out unless you’re a captain or you’re being recruited. Speed skating is a unique sport that I doubt Emory can really care for. Especially since Emory doesn’t have big time sports so that doesn’t really matter. Emory’s interview program is still in development and they don’t put that much emphasis on it. But it actually does help you out just a bit… not much though. Especially since you’re Asian. I know they try not to make decisions based on race, but come on, every school does.

Good luck but if you get rejected, don’t be sad because it was sorta coming, sorry for sounding really mean. IF you get accepted then super congrats!

I’m sorry but i have to agree with collunivgue. Your grades and overall application strength falls short of what Emory is accustomed to accepting. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Your skating and other EC activities may prove to be just enough for you to get in, but with the multiple flaws and weaknesses of your application, I would suggest not to get your hopes up. I would consider Emory a HUGE reach for you. GPA and SAT do not make up all of the acceptance considerations, however, it does make up at least 1/3 and a GPA below 3.0, SAT below 2000, and weak AP/SATII scores is going to significantly affect your chances of getting in. Buddytheelf is right, it comes down to how well you can “sell” yourself in your essays. This is definitely a long shot.

So, im a Junior and Emory is definetly top choice for me. Im trying to go for a number of scholarships there, including Emory Scholars. I havent taken SAT/ACTs yet but I dont think i`ll do so well. I project a 1900+ for SATs and a 30+ for ACTs. However, I think everything else is quite exceptional. ECs, essays, volunteering, IB Diploma Candidate, IB Awards, began and organized 3+ charity programs in my school, 3.9 GPA as of now, LOTS of leadership roles and recs are gunna be awesome so… I dont know ._.
ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated ! thanks
