EE and CE

I have heard from current students that the requirements for electrical engineering is similar to computer engineering, give or take a few courses. Does anyone know where I can look up the UMD requirements, and has anyone double majored in both fields?

If you are not sure what sort of problems EE v CE majors address, you may want to sign up for ENES181, which is a one-credit class called Dialogue with the Dean. The class description states:
“Introduction to Engineering as a Profession, Overview of Martin Institute and Clark School Education and Research Programs, The Future of Engineering and Engineering Education, Basic Technological Literacy, Business and Entrepreneurship Issues for Engineers, the Joy of Discovery, Student Projects: How to get involved, Research and Development Programs: How to get involved, What the corporate sector expects from a new engineering graduate.”

FYI, all freshman engineering students are also assigned student peer mentors, so you can also address some of your questions with your mentor
[SEEDS Mentoring, Programs, Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland](http://www.seeds.umd.edu/programs/mentoring.html)

Oops, my apologies…I was trying to combine one answer to both of your questions - this one and the one you had on your EE thread - so I actually didn’t answer the question about where to look things up.

To find where you can look up the requirements for the different majors in engineering for comparison, go to
[Undergraduate Advising: Four Year Academic Plans & Curriculum Sheets | A. James Clark School of Engineering](Four-Year Plans | A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland)
Click on Gen Ed - Four Year Academic Plan: 2012-2013 and a drop down menu will appear with all the different disciplines. Each will have a pdf you can open to show the suggested four year plans for each.

To see class descriptions, go to testudo.umd.edu and click on “schedule of classes” - that will take you to a list of all the departmental offerings. Click on the department you want to look at (MATH, ENEE, ENES, etc) and all the classes available for the fall semester will come up along with their descriptions.

You could, but the two majors are so similar that having both degrees will not give you any advantage. Some people choose to do EE+Comp sci which makes a lot more sense.

It’s definitely doable, but I have a friend who’s attempting a triple major in EE, CE, and CS, and it is not going well for him. I recommend sticking to a single major you like, and getting laid a little more.
