Are the 2 lectures for 280 the same? As in, do they cover the same material and have the same exams? I want to take the one with Ringenerg, but I have a conflict at that time, so I have to take it with Chesney, who people say isn’t as good.

I took 101 and 280 with Ringenberg and he’s awesome; I took 281 with Chesney and although he’s good, he has a different teaching style and he makes it a little tougher (although that may have just been the 281 syllabus).

280 isn’t a hard class, it’s just expanding your knowledge of C++ (and actually any programming). 281 is the class that gets everybody. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, just make sure you know have a good foundation to build upon for upper level courses.

Never took 280 myself, but a friend of mine who is quite smart said that it was a big step up from 183.

Do they have the same tests and projects for 280?

Email one or both of the profs and ask.

When I took 280 there was a different professor teaching the other section and we had the same projects. I can tell you that Ringenberg’s test scores were higher than the other section.
