Hi, I am a prospective international student who will apply to UC Berkeley this fall. I am in a major dilemma, I want to become an engineer but I have a thing in my heart, that is to sing songs at hollywood. I also want to become a good software engineer. My seniors who have gone to Berkeley say me to double major in EECS and Applied Mathematics as it will create a good impression on a tech firm recruiter.
But, to become a singer ,the first step is to study music…I love to sing songs and also have appeared in many local events. Will EECS + Music create a bad impression on a tech firm recruiter???
Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks!

EECS + music will require a lot of classes; L&S CS + music may be slightly more doable (since music is also in L&S). You may want to consider EECS or L&S CS while taking music courses of interest (for your breadth requirements) and/or doing music extracurriculars for practice.

A second major in applied math may not help employment prospects much for an EECS or L&S CS major, except perhaps at a few specific jobs. Even then, taking additional math courses as electives may be more useful, if you pick those applicable to the jobs you are targeting. Again, if you do a double major, it may be easier to do L&S CS + applied math since both are in L&S.

Note, however, that L&S CS does not have direct frosh admission like EECS. You would have to enter as L&S undeclared, or in some other major in a non-L&S division (even EECS), then declare or change to it after completing the prerequisites with at least a (currently) 3.0 college GPA. L&S undeclared is probably slightly easier to get admitted to than EECS for frosh admission, though.

Thanks!
