EFC of 8,800...is this a good EFC?

Hi. My parents make a combined total of like 94,000 and I have 3 sisters. I was just wondering if this is a good EFC? Oh and both of my parents are going back to school, my dad to get a degree in education and my mom to finish her masters in nursing.

What do you mean “is this a good EFC”? It’s not like it’s negotiable…

Do your parents and you feel that you can afford to pay $8,800? Are you applying to colleges that will meet the rest of your need through financial aid packages (that usually include loans, sometimes large ones) that you are comfortable with?

The answers to those questions provide the answer to yours.

Here’s why I think this is a good EFC:
Suppose you get into a college or program that covers everything except your EFC with scholarships and grants. You are left with 8800 per year to pay. Even if your parents won’t give you any money, you can survive four years - work summers and perhaps part time during the school year and borrow the rest - and you would graduate without a terrible debt load.
Everything is relative, but in my opinion, this is a good EFC.

IDK what you are asking, but if you didn’t have three sisters you would have a much much higher EFC.

Hmm, I disagree on the “not a terrible debt.” One would still have the 8000 to pay back as well as the loans the school would require. Most schools already have an amount in the package for work-study and summer contribution.
