Totally in the dark here, just filled out the fasa and received our pin no. last night. Efc is supposed to be $7183. Is this the total amount we are expected to come up with out of pocket for the first year in total? Son was accepted into the engineering program, and did not receive any scholarship money. Any help would be appreciated.

The short answer is that if a college met 100% of your need then you’d pay just your EFC. Few do and I doubt Pitt is one of them.

^^ Good advice. Are you in-state Pa. or out of state? Also, I thought the Pitt engineering department gave out scholarships. Are you sure your son isn’t getting one?

We are in state. I was told by Pitt that he does not qualify for any type of scholarship.

It’s impossible to predict that any individual student will be given by any particular school. You’ll just have to wait and see. In general, state schools don’t meet 100 percent of need, except in unique cases. At least you’re in Pa., not that Pa. schools are inexpensive. Where else is your son applying?

He also applied and was accepted at Drexel. He received a $19,000 scholarship for each year with them. The AJ Drexel scholarship. He has his heart set on attending Pitt.
