Effect of ECs on Apps

Hello,

I am a junior in high school, and I have done debate since freshman year, but I feel that this year I will not be able to do it due to my heavy courseload. I will definetely go back senior year, but I do not know how quitting the club junior year might affect me. Is it better to do it at the risk of a lower GPA this year? I have other extracurriculars, but they are not as demanding as the debate team.

GPA is the absolute most important factor in college admissions.
Almost no EC will make up for a bad GPA. It’s much better to have a higher GPA than to have a lower one and debate club on your application.
