Effect of Origin and Background on chances.

I’m from a very small town in India, and to my knowledge no student in a 50 mile radius has ever made it to a prestigious college abroad. No school in the area is aware of the SAT. My school - despite being the best in the area - has a low level of education, and the standard of English language among the students + non-language teachers is pretty .

In spite of that, I have personally made use of all opportunities available and created some of my own.

I still do not compare to the kids in large cities.

Does my town of origin and background give me an edge, and will adcoms look at just a list of my accomplishments, regardless of opportunities offered, or how much I accomplished with respect to the opportunities I had?

PS. I still have an year and a half left. What should I do in that time to increase my chances?
