Effective Advertising

There is so much poor advertising out there. Although I’m no fan of University of Phoenix, I do give their advertising agency props for their latest commercial. Short but effective and well done! Here it is if you haven’t seen it:

I agree, @doschicos. I’d like to know who does their marketing!

@lilmom It looks like the agency is 180 LA. http://www.180la.com

I’m sure it’ll lure many more thousands of people to waste their money.

Yup, that is a definite downside.

It is an attractive ad. Wish it was for something I believed would help more viewers.

Thanks, @doschicos. This is the field DS is in. Good to know what’s out there.

Well, I did work once with a woman who had an MA in HR from the University of Phoenix. This was before it was well-known, and I remember thinking, Gee, she lived in Arizona for a while??

ETA: And, to be fair, for some people this is the only option, given their life circumstances. I applaud their efforts.

then again there’s this one where at the end, the privileged young white woman flips off the African-American security card who’d just like to go home. Got a lot of traction for being bad publicity.

Here is a pretty clever use of a song in a commercial. The car can actually travel 500 miles on one tank of gas!

@garland Interesting it got that reaction as I didn’t see it that way. In that commercial, I give them points for showing breastfeeding in public.

In #9, it looks like she’s asking for another minute to finish up before they close. Neither seems upset. Those were all interesting ads, tho I’d never come across any of them.

^It’s the way she does. The raised “shhush” finger without turning to make eye contact–I’m sorry, that’s rude. The man was just doing his job. The unfortunate fact that she’s white and he’s black.I know what it’s supposed to show, but the tone was, to me, very dismissive.

Privileged white woman? Middle finger? Wow. People really need to lay off feeding those supporters of you know who. IMO, this outrage belongs in the same crazy basket as the one about the realtor and home sellers discriminating against non-Christians because the house was being sold with Christmas lights. Why else would a house have those lights still hanging from the roof in the spring?

But anyway… Back to the topic - clever and effective ads.

I like the new Jeep ads, showing people “recalculating” as they go through life. So true!

are you a nuclear physicist no but I stayed at a holiday inn last night. I love that one and the whole series of ads by holiday inn along that line.

It doesn’t look like the student in the library is “flicking off” the guard. She is gesturing him to wait just a minute ( holding up her index finger), which seems to suggest she is burning the midnight oils and trying to finish something.
