EFTPS for Tax Payments

Does anyone have experience with EFTPS for submitting their federal income tax payments online?

I was led to the site from a google search. It seemed legit (IRS url, and all), but before I enroll and zap thousands of dollars through cyberspace each quarter, I’m looking for success/horror stories.

Thanks.

I use it every month to pay taxes for our company and our church. It works great! Very simple (it used to be a lot harder and slower). If you have any specific questions, let me know.

Absoluteley, most small businesses are required to do their payments through EFTPS any more. I have used it for the last eight years or so. Great service, so much easier than the old way of doing employment taxes.

Have never used it for personal income tax, but given my experience with it I would have no hesitation.

I have also used it for years for business tax payments. Haven’t for personal but wouldn’t hesitate to.

I use it to make my mother’s quarterly estimated tax payments. Extremely convenient, once you have the account(s) set up.

It’s legit. We use it for both business withholding payments and personal estimated payments. Now, if we could file the 941 through it like we can for PA, it’ll be even better.

Yup, legit. I have filed my corporate 941 tax payments through it for years and years. Just know it takes a day or two to settle the payment (I am habitually late, so have more experience than I care to admit to with this).

I think EFTPS is a PITA. You have to remember username, password,… I used couple times but I hated it.

I don’t need to remember those things to pay California Franchise Taxboard taxes and my local city property taxes.

I don’t remember them, I have a piece of paper in the front of my tax file with them on it. Every month I pull out the file, look at the paper to remember that info, print the result and stick it in the back of the file. Works great. Interesting, after all this time, I don’t remember all the info (need TIN, password, and a PIN). But I also have to make sure I am putting in the right withholding amounts, so I have to look at the paper for those as well.

I think it is 10 times easier than filling out a paper form, writing a check, and mailing it would be (what I do with quarterly personal estimated taxes – yuck).

Coolweather, you mentioned paying property taxes online. My county charges a “convenience” fee to pay property taxes online. What a goofball idea… it is a lot cheaper for them to process an electronic transaction than a check.

No. Don’t use credit card. Use Echeck. It’s usually free.

Thanks for the feedback. I enrolled last night. Now I await our PIN so I can make the 4Q11 tax payment. :o

(We will be using this as individuals. Although we own a small business, its payments are made another way, by H.)

I also use EFTP, started several years ago on advice of my tax guy – I’m self employed so I have to pay quarterlies. The only think that irks me is that there’s not much in the way of a reminder – I think they may send out a single email couple of days before they pull the money, but I had to make a point of calendaring it myself and setting up reminders so that I’m sure there’s enough money in the account to fund the withdrawal & whatever else comes due at the same time.
