Egg prices, and impacts you are seeing

If the eggs are not farm fresh that day. Seriously…they are not easy to peel. But keep for a week, and they are then fine for hard boiled eggs.

Are we back to how to hard-boil eggs??? Because I remember us talking about that years ago! There was some device we all bought. . . I think it’s at the back of a cupboard now.

That’s the Dash egg cooker I just mentioned above.

I think most of CC members have one after all that discussion way back when. Myself included.

I need to drag mine back out, bc an egg sounds really tasty right now.

I still use my Dash egg cooker 1-2 times/week. I bought it way back when we were originally posting about hard boiled eggs.

I use that egg cooker all the time!!!

Egg producers (their product) can’t seem to catch a break.

Costco organic eggs sold under Kirkland label recalled for salmonella risk

More than 10,000 cartons of eggs produced by Handsome Brook Farms have been recalled.

That is on top of losses caused by the H5N1 bird flu:

Costco is $5 for two dozen. Aldi is $2.13 a dozen, and Price Rite is cheap, too. I guess that they had contracts nailed down long ago, because it can be two to almost three times as much in regular supermarkets.

Our Aldi was $3.69/dozen a week or so ago.

Our Costco had NO eggs of any kind just before the thanksgiving. The eggs sold here have not been recalled, so something else affected the supply.

Our Eggsland have been $6.29 for a few weeks.

My TJ’s did not have an egg shipment last week (bird flu is what mgr said). Found a dozen at local store for $5.99 last Tuesday --and store only had 4 more dozen left. (I probably should have grabbed more!)

I don’t use a lot of eggs so I needed some this weekend. First store was completely out but the next had lots. $4.69 for the dozen but they were brown cage free eggs. I don’t buy many so I decided to be somewhat humane.

I do have a question. I’m sure this is distinct to my area but I’m seeing roadside egg stands.

Is it safe to buy eggs from a person who has local chickens or to buy eggs from the farmer’s market? We have Amish in the area but I’ve seen stands that aren’t Amish also.

I used to raise my own chickens and I would sell extra to people at work.

I have bought eggs from neighbors and other local sources to include the Amish.

They are more than likely just as safe as a store bought eggs and potentially much more healthy. My chickens were free range and the eggs were much better than even cage free commercial eggs. I would not hesitate to buy from a local source that was selling to the public.

A cool thing about fresh eggs that have not been washed. You can leave them unrefrigerated on the counter and they will keep for about two weeks .

I just checked: a dozen extra-large Eggsland’s Best eggs range from $3.59 - $5.39 at the three grocery store around me.

I would not hesitate to buy eggs from the farmer’s market or an individual who sells - if they’ve gone through the trouble to have a stand they must have the demand for them!

We go through a lot of eggs. Just went through 2 dozen over 3 days of breakfast and cooking (with 5-7 people at the house).

Used to love the roadside farm stand in Canada where we would get eggs. A little shed/shack with a cranky old refrigerator you helped yourself to eggs and then a little box to drop your $$ in!

I got 3 dozen eggs at Aldi yesterday, and they had racks of them in their cooler. $2.19 a dozen. It’s cookie baking weekend!

I bought eggs yesterday at Whole Foods. The shelves were about 75% empty. I needed up with pasture raised x large for 5.99 a dozen.

My son buys his eggs from a local farm stand or the farmers market. They love them but they are more expensive.

Bought Eggsland XL dozen for $3.69 at Kroger.

Aldi was still $3.96 but they had dozens of dozens. Gallon milk only $2.69.
