Egg prices, and impacts you are seeing

In a first time ever event our Costco had ZERO eggs this morning! Zero!!

I popped into Big Y to get some ice cream for my daughter (who is home with a sore throat) and the eggs I saw were 8.99-12.99 per dozen.

I really thought these high egg prices were going to go away by now. I was told that.

There are plenty of things to eat that don’t have eggs. If I can’t find the real thing
I will sub something that doesn’t contain eggs. I won’t use an egg substitute of any kind.

My local grocery store had zero eggs on Saturday. Our local Costco sells out quickly each day of egg delivery (M, W,F)–we have a Facebook group for the store, and people are making regular reports. I don’t use eggs a lot, but I like having them on hand for when I need/want them!

I haven’t honestly been hunting for eggs. The few times we wanted them and looked, Costco had them. When possible, we prefer buying local eggs and they are similarly-priced to the other eggs.

I just went to a high end grocery store and they had a case full of eggs. The prices ranged from 5-10 dollars a dozen. I still have plenty from Costco so didn’t buy any. I find it’s hit or miss depending on what time of day I hit the store.

Wegmans shelves were running low on Sunday evening. I didn’t really check the prices. I noticed that the signs limited purchases to 10 dozen!

Walmart today charged $9.36 for 18 Great Value large brown eggs-- and there were plenty of cartons.
The same carton cost me $8.56 last week and $7.22 the week before that.

I fully expect they will be over $10 next time.

$8.49 a dozen today, up from about $7 a week and a half ago. I can’t imagine prices dropping in the future

Have they tried injecting bleach into the birds to get rid of the flu?

Three-quarters of the egg-laying chickens lost to the outbreak in 2025 have been conventional “caged” production chickens, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. “The cage-free and pasture-raised organic eggs, they’re not having that issue,” Hollis said. “Essentially it’s better eggs for a lot cheaper.”

At TJ the lowest price for large cage free eggs yesterday was 4.99 which is up from 3.49 the week before.

Local chichi market was well stocked with eggs, including duck and quail ones! :scream: Prices were astronomical. $4.99’to $5.99 for medium chicken eggs. Did not even look at how much they wanted for the “exotics.”

My neighbor works in the food industry and at some point was an inspector. He told us just like this photo shows. All of those labels that make you think life is so much better for the animals really aren’t. They find loopholes wherever they can. And not limited to chickens. He said the frozen food practices are particular stomach curling. But said he’d spare me the details so food wouldn’t be ruined for me like it was for him.

Traveling in MA. Plenty of eggs at the store. I bought a dozen form $3.99, felt fortunate.

None at Trader Joe’s in downtown Brooklyn this evening.
