Egg prices, and impacts you are seeing

Yesterday, Safeway’s Lucerne eggs, Large Grade A, 18 for $8.79
(Or,about $5.87 a dozen)

LOL
. I assume that means one carton of eggs per person, not a single egg per person

Egg beaters brand out of stock today, although generic version still available.

Trader Joe’s in my area was also limiting eggs to one carton per customer and they had plenty at the normal prices.

At Walmart today they just had Eggland’s Best and a few cartons of 18 Walmart eggs, but the Walmart egg cartons I normally buy all had at least a few broken eggs. I managed to swap out enough eggs to make up one carton of 18 to buy.
Last week such a carton cost $7.22. Today it was $8.56.

I was finally able to find some eggs with freshdirect. They used to be 3.99, now they are 4.29. I bought 2 dozens, threw in few other items so I could make the $35 hurdle for delivery. Let’s see if they show up tomorrow

Got my eggs. My mom was really happy to get a dozen from me. I do have respect for freshdirect not to jack up the price.

We are right there with you. We just don’t eat eggs unless we are baking and lately we haven’t baked that much. We are lucky to use a dozen in a month. During this crazy time I really feel like I am dodging a bullet.

Also $3.49 and plenty on stock in Southern CA TJ’s yesterday. Limit one carton. Was at Sprouts earlier and they were sold out. We don’t eat a ton of eggs, but I volunteered to bring deviled eggs to a party.

Zero eggs at Trader Joe’s in downtown Brooklyn today.

I always by pastured raised eggs. They were cheaper today than they usually are. Perhaps pastrue raised tend to be more local?

Costco had two dozen organic, pasture-raised, brown eggs for $8.49. I don’t usually buy that many eggs at a time but Trader Joe’s was sold out during my last visit and they were $5.98 per dozen for cage-free brown eggs at H‑E‑B.

Target had Eggland 18 pack for $14.59 and we feel lucky to get them at all. The drive up guy who handed them to my husband, said “Great price!” Well, no, not really.

Who else remembers the loss leader $.39/dozen eggs at Passover/Easter so many years ago? Maybe even $.29/dozen. Limit 2, of course

I’ve been seeing memes of “what are we gonna color for Easter cause it isn’t gonna be colored Easter eggs!”

Paint rocks? I’ve seen some very nice painted river rocks and similar.

I saw a suggestion of potatoes! Maybe a follow-up of potatoes being given out at Halloween?

Well, there are many different colors of potatoes—red, brown and yellow for starters and lots of different sizes. Not sure how well dye will fit for potatoes.

I’m more concerned with the fact that so much of what I cook during Passover needs eggs. Good thing I have a half size angel food cake pan! But matzoh balls, matzoh brei, kugel, etc. When we had Seder for eight of us, I used to say that I needed five dozen eggs just to make it through the first day. Everyone gets an HB egg!

We may have to rely on the farmers markets in the end.

For hard boiled eggs
.get your farm eggs a week before you plan to hard boil them. Otherwise, they are very hard to peel.
