Egg prices, and impacts you are seeing

Not in any way surprised. Listen to the Stuff You Should Know podcast Greedflation is Real.

I also wasn’t surprised. However awareness is the first step to addressing a problem. I chose ā€œaddressingā€ over ā€œsolvingā€, because I feel a lot of times people become discouraged/apathetic when results aren’t produced quickly enough or to the desired extent. Imo all we can try to do is motivate people to care and to try to mitigate some of the most harmful consequences of incidences of greed.

I’ll check the podcast out. Here are a couple of links I found interesting.

Will this impact egg buying this week??

Easter Eggs Are So Expensive Americans Are Dyeing Potatoes
With costs high and supplies short, people are getting creative with Easter egg traditions.

The Easter related concerns about eggs are funny to me because even if a dozen eggs costs $6. That’s still only 50 cents per egg. Whereas much more delicious Cadbury eggs are $5.97 for only 5 eggs at my local Walmart. That is an impact for my Easter celebration.

I bought jelly bellies and put them into tiny ziplocks & will be giving them out.

Got a dozen large eggs for $3.63 because the expiration date was approaching (in 5 days). They will get used before then.

I just paid $7.99 for the cheapest eggs at QFC in a Seattle suburb. Looking at the price at Whole Foods and QFC, these are the most expensive that I’ve seen eggs.

Heard some idiot on tv last week rave about how the price of eggs, gas, groceries and mortgage rates are way down. Well, at least around here, egg prices up, gas prices up, everything I put in my grocery cart was a little more expensive, coffee and red wine up, and mortgage rates recently jumped. Trying to figure out what has dropped, besides my 401K balance.

Well…a gallon of gas ($2.71 today) cheaper than a dozen eggs. And it’s been that way for a while. That never used to be the case!

I buy Ghirardelli chocolate chips frequently. I remember a couple years ago a special would be 2 bags for $5. Then it was $6. Right now, the cheapest I see them is $4.79 a 10 oz bag. At some stores $5.79 or even $6.79 a bag. It’s insanity!

Eggs were $4.47 per dozen and gas was $2.91 in Eastern CT today.

I wonder if there might be a sale on white eggs tomorrow

And I think the bags were larger than ten ounces when they were on sale for at 2 for $5. I don’t buy them regularly enough to be certain of that, but OJ and ice cream are smaller than 64 ounces now.

Everything is smaller and more expensive.

I’m also a regular Ghirardelli dark chips consumer and have found Walmart to be my best deal lately.
$9.96 for 20 ounces.

Used to be around $6-7.

I’m in the food industry. Last week’s import from the EU had no tariff (because it was invoiced before 5 April).

Our next import, dated 18 April, will be here in early May. That will really be telling.

Some Stop & Shop locations were giving away a dozen eggs to customers that purchased at least $100 worth of groceries this past weekend.

I’ve noticed the price of eggs has gone down, but I think the size of eggs has also gone down.

I always buy large eggs, but they seem smaller. For baking, this can make a difference.

I was just coming on here to say that I live in an area where we weren’t seeing high prices for eggs when this all began. Now, holy moly have they gotten expensive. I’ve always bought pasture raised eggs and they stayed at 5.99 for ever. Now they are over $8. The cartons of egg whites I buy have also gotten expensive. I’d say the price increase was pretty recent. The last 2 months or so.

Just went to Costco this morning. When they opened, they had a pretty good selection of eggs—local eggs were $11.99 for 2 dozen large. Kirkland eggs were $5.99 or $6.99 for 2 dozen XL. Brown eggs were $8.99 for 2 dozen. They also sold eggs by 5 dozen but I wasn’t interested as that’s way too many eggs for us to deal with (only H & me). I bought the local eggs, as were many other shoppers.

Aside from eggs, I noticed price of beef has really gone up. I used to be able to get ribeye for around 25/lb, now it’s 30+

How about coffee? An almost two pound tin used to be about $13, and often on sale for $9.99. This week…$17.99 and no sales on coffee.
