Electives or Core Classes?

So, arena scheduling is gong on at my high school. I doubled up on science my freshman year, so I’m starting off in chemistry for my sophomores year. In order to keep a 5.0 at my high school, you must take at least five weighted classes. However, only core classes and third level foreign languages can apply for the weighted GPA. My projected schedule is

General Chemistry (weighted)
Algebra II Honors (weighted)
Human Body Systems
English II Honors (weighted)
Trig (weighted)
World History Honors (weighted)
French I
French II

However, because I’m a sophomores, the chances of myself getting into Trig are pretty low. The issue is, in order to keep my weighted 5.0 GPA, I’d have to take Earth Science Honors. This course is extremely difficult, and most of the class fails out of it (the class started with 26 students at the beginning of the semester, and by the end, 7 remained. The class average was like a C-, and no one got above a B+). This class terrifies me. Is the weight even worth it in the long run, or would it be better for me to backup journalism I, an easy A class that would set me up to join Yearbook my Junior and Senior year, at the cost of taking fewer core classes?

Unless if I pulled a miracle in the class, the weight would pull me down. A lot.

Earth Science is the easiest science. Is it just a lot of work?

At my school, it’s unbelievably difficult.

The Earth Science class at my school is ridiculous. It’s one of the hardest at my school. It may be a different story at your school, but class difficulty changes from school to school.

What math class are you in now?
How does the math sequence at your school work?
If you have passed the prerequisite courses for Trig I don’t see how or why you wouldn’t be allowed to take it.

I’m in geometry honors as of now. My school is on a block schedule, and I plan to double up on math by taking Algebra II first semester, and Trig second semester. The issue is, my school has WAY too many students for the current number of teachers, so there is a good chance that I may not get into Trig, as upcoming juniors and seniors get priority over me. Despite me wanting to take the class, I may not get into Trig.
