Electric Steamer or Steam Pot?

I am going to try my hand at steaming chicken as I am tired of baked chicken breasts, but am confused as to which method is easier/better: an electric steamer or a steam pot? If electric steamer, any suggestions on a small one? I don’t plan on using it for complex meals - mainly chicken and veggies on occasion.

Could someone tell me what a “steam pot” is?

A pot with a steam basket insert.

I didn’t know either.

How different will chicken steamed be? Maybe I should say how will that be desirable over baking? Seems the steaming will give it no browning.

I may be incorrect so please educate me what the benefits of steaming would be! I personally would prefer roasting chicken and vegetables (much deeper flavor) than steaming.

I love the soft steamed chicken and vegetables that I get when I order from my favorite Chinese restaurant. No benefits, necessarily, I just like the softness and the texture of the chicken.

If you have a rice cooker, you already have an electric steamer.

I don’t have a rice cooker, but I’ll take a look at it, thanks.

I love my electric steamer - I use it almost daily, but never made chicken in it. Tamales and gyoza (thank you Trader Joe’s) and fresh veggies almost exclusively. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Oster-Double-Tiered-Steamer-CKSTSTMD5-W-015/dp/B00519EDIA/ref=sr_1_7?crid=3F4HMCARKOJ28&keywords=electric+steamer+for+cooking&qid=1577916018&sprefix=electric+steamer%2Caps%2C197&sr=8-7

It replaced my bamboo steamer that I had for years!

Can’t you just put one of those stainless steel things you use to steam veggies in a pot…and steam your chicken? Seems like an inexpensive solution that would work.

If anyone tries the electric steamer for fish successfully, let me know.
