Electrical Engineering Laptop

I have been going to a branch for the past 2 years to complete all of my generals and in the fall I will be moving down to the main campus to take all of my major courses. Right now I just have a desktop and I would rather have a laptop that I can do everything on down there and also take it to class or to the library. I won’t be doing any heavy gaming but I would still like a 1gb discrete gpu. Other things I would be using the laptop for is web surfing, document processing, programming, matlab, autocad, and other E E programs I’m not really aware of. I’m looking for anything between 14-15.5" with decent battery life and a backlit keyboard is a plus but not required. I would mainly just like to see what people in similar fields have chosen. My budget is around $1,000 give or take a couple hundred. So far I’ve really been interested in the Sager NP5160 but I haven’t really heard a lot about Sagers and I don’t know anybody who has one.

Any input is highly appreciated. Also I forgot to mention that I will be purchasing a 3 year parts and labor warranty with any laptop I purchase.

I would suggest this hp, and you can customize it with a 1GB GDDR5 Radeon™ HD 6490M Graphics, 2nd gen i5, 6gb ram, 640gb hdd, and beats audio for $850.

I wouldn’t consider VRAM to be much of an issue, especially if you arent heavy-gaming.

Vaio S series/Vaio C series could work.
