Interesting. Even if it was trained to do these brush strokes, it’s still impressive. We lived in Kenya for several years and went to game parks several times to see the animals in their natural habitats. Once you see the large animals, particularly the elephants, in nature, it kind of makes you ill to see them in captivity. They are supposed to roam for miles in large multi-generational herds, not pace small confined spaces in pairs. I can’t stand zoos anymore.

I saw this video a couple of days ago and was really impressed. I wonder how they teach them to do this… I kept thinking perhaps there is some faint lines on the paper that they trace somehow.

this is all the info I could find about it:

Somewhat off topic and rather embarrassing: This thread has proved to be the last straw in convincing me to make an appointment to see the ophthalmologist about getting my glasses made over into bifocals. Why? Because every time I run my OLD EYES down the front page of this forum, I’m reading it as “Elephant Pns Self Portrait.”

So, um, thanks, nngmm? :D

I’m also wondering if there is a template on the paper or under it for the elephant to follow.

It’s still impressive as a training feat.
