Eli Whitney Students Program 2009

deusex and mikel, just curious, how old are y’all?

also, deusex, you may want to also apply to the Penn U. LPS program (allows for flexible scheduling). someone mentioned it on another thread and i looked into it, good option.

I’m 23. Thanks for the recommendation. I will look into it!

Mikel,

I am so sorry that you got denied. Duke is a great school by the way. That was a pretty direct letter, wowsers!

I can only imagine reading my rejection now. I mean, dude, your stats were killer. Mine are garbage compared to yours.

Also, a 3.75 from Williams is so impressive. I do not think that you should count yourself out just yet.

I have a feeling, though, that I can now count myself out for sure.

[Humor Collection/Academic Jokes\The Admissions Letter.txt](http://techsupt.winbatch.com/webcgi/webbatch.exe?techsupt/nffunsupt.web+Academic~Jokes+The~Admissions~Letter.txt)

Rejected too… same exact letter… just a little different.

I talked about being gay, war, death. But I over focused on my diversity and what i’ve seen and how I wanted a peaceful challenge, etc. I even listed the Profs that I wanted to study with and WHY.

They basically said the exact same thing, except they said “honorable” and “admirable” instead of notable, and dually listed the fact that these reasons were not especially “compelling” enough to grant the distinction of Eli Whitney student. So I think it was my essay. My recs were amazing.

Fortunately, I can put deposits down on other schools and I do not have to wait. I got into UNC, UVA, FLORIDA, U of New Hampshire, Berkeley, DUKE (I might join you), NYU, and Georgetown.

Good Luck all!

8675309, did you hear back from berkeley already? and ha ha, i’m in at UNH too.

very sorry to hear about your rejection, huge bummer. i wonder if i’ll get one of those letters (it would be delayed, i’m on the west coast).

I hate to be right about such things. I knew the letters would rear their ugly head in the next two weeks. Some of us should be getting calls to set up interviews before the end of the month. Until we get a letter, we are still in the game…Keep your chin up!

(big chin is in the air). :)

Did you apply as a Freshman to those schools 867? I didn’t think any Georgetown transfer decisions were out.

Rejected… GOT THE SAME LETTER!

I am in at Georgetown, UNC, DUKE (hey!!!), and a couple of other places.

They basically said, look, this is not “compelling” to grant the distinction of Eli Whitney student. Same exact line. Same exact wording. I guess it was nice of them to say, YOU did this to YOURSELF! YOU HAD CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE!

I AM SO CRUSHED! I do not know what I am going to do. Duke?

bummer!!! that bites!!!

by the way, where do all you folk live? (i.e. is it really close to them postal service wise?)

I am so sorry to hear that Megtaylor. I wonder what qualifies for “compelling”? I keep hearing Duke, Penn and Columbia in these threads. You may want to check them out. I am truly sorry for the news… The thinning of the herd continues…

seriously, what is “compellin?” “hi yale, i lost my mind on your campus and i really need to attend school there to give me a chance to find it again”. :)

meg, i thought your story was compelling, but i’m not in yale adcomm.; i suspect they have a specific definition of “non-traditional” and i’m not sure what that is, exactly.

interesting.

Alright, alright, alright… this forum needs some good news.

I am in at and considering seriously these schools: Georgetown, Hopkins, Duke, NYU, Berkeley, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and I have an interview at Brown (RUE). Schools I turned down: UNC, Miami, Florida State, Arizona, and anywhere else that was really frickin’ hot.

Here is the good news: I have not gotten that nasty letter yet telling me that I was not non-traditional.

gosh, how did you get in at Berkeley so soon? i thought transfer decisions weren’t posted till apr. 30th (or maybe just for us CA students?)

good call on hot schools. :(

i’m in at uc davis (full ride), uc santa cruz (almost full ride), stony brook (unsure of fin. aid), university of new hampshire (tuition only). still waiting on berkeley, ucla, stanford, cornell, yale (duh), dartmouth, and boston u. was going to add wake forest and penn u. to the list but frankly, with davis as a fall back, i’m not going to bother. i’m tired of doing apps and transcripts, and my dad won’t shut up about how i should go to davis (his alma mater).

congrats annalo! some great schools!

i also am not a receiver of the letter yet, but i’m far away from yale, so who knows. someone from there was on my site this morning but only stayed for 40 seconds (interesante).

good luck to all those left standing. remember, not being chosen isn’t a reflection of the self, but of the fit.

and annalo, how did you get into the business of being able to sell your art? do you have a website gallery i could check out? i’m a very young painter (in years producing canvassed work, not age); i’m very interested in becoming developed enough to show and sell. what was that process like for you? PM me if you have time and think it’s a better way to communicate (rather than taking up this board).

I have not applied anywhere else…We’ll see where we are at after next week…I just hope EVERYONE posts. In a way, we are all in this together…

AnnaLo, would you mind sharing your stats with us in the RUE thread on the Brown board?

Thanks :)

let’s see what the mail brings today…

Nothing in the mail for me.
