I am moving to the US next fall with my mom, who won the Diversity Visa Lottery (Greencard Lottery). We are from Germany. I am very much looking forward to go to College in the US and hope I can qualify for scholarships and grants. The problem I have is that my dad in Germany refuses to chip in for college in the US, as Colleges in Germany are free. He wants me to stay in Germany. My mom raised me as a single mom and only makes around $30,000-40,000 per year. My dad is a physician and makes much more than my mom and if I have to count him into the family income I won’t be eligible for aids. But he will not contribute and I can´t force him to. Is there a way that he will not be counted into the family income?
