Eligibility Index

For California CSU’s if i meet the eligibility index and don’t get my major will i get put into undeclared if i have met my eligiblity requirements.
Also csus require 2 years of language and i finished chinese 3 sophomore year but started chinese 1 middle school so does it start when i take chinese 2 freshman year for 2 years of language or chinese3=3 years of language
i got a d 1 semester of chinese freshman year and there is no summer school make up for it

Chinese 1=A/A (Middle School) Chinese 2=D/B Chinese 3=C/B so would that be 3 years of language taken or 2.5 or 0 since they dont consider me because i failed 1 semester of language

Def you are okay on language because it counts what level you reached so you have 3 years, not zero even if you had a D one semester. I think you are okay with the D if you get higher in more advanced class.

You see on this gpa calculator that you do count D in your a to g taken after 9th grade. But since you successfully completed level 3 you are good as far as a to g requirements go.

Regarding eligibility index question, some CSU schools will place you in Undeclared if you are not accepted into your 1st choice major (eg. SJSU) , Cal Poly Pomona is the only CSU that will consider your alternate major (non-impacted) if not accepted into your 1st choice major and some will reject you completely (eg. SLO) if not placed into your major. It really depends upon the CSU and how high your EI is in comparison with the other applicants.

Enter all your classes and grades into CSUMentor, then see if it reports that you are lacking a semester due to the D. I know that for getting a D In the first semester of Bio, a friend’s daughter had to retake it to meet the requirements.

For a-g requirement purposes, the B in your last semester of Chinese 3 will validate the lower levels, so you are considered by CSU and UC to have “3 years” of high school language other than English.
