Eligibility

Found this under the “eligibility” section of the application instructions: “You will be considered a freshman applicant if you will have completed high school by the end of this current academic year and have taken fewer than three college courses. Students enrolled in
concurrent high school and college courses are considered freshmen.”

I have completed two courses and am planning to take a third course at my local community college second semester of senior year. So I wanted to know, what does this mean for my admissions?

Were you still in high school when you took them? Even if it was during the summer, it’s still considered concurrent enrollment, and so you’re still a freshman.

Yeah, I’m still in high school.

So, it turns out that I’m not applying to be a freshman at Rice? This is very surprising to me, as I’m sure there are many others who have been concurrently enrolled in college courses while in high school. I’m quite confused.

no, no. I’m sorry if I confused you. you were concurrently enrolled, and students enrolled in
concurrent high school and college courses are considered freshmen. that would be neat if you could apply as a sophomore though…

Ah, I see. I think it was the difference between “freshman applicant” and “freshman” in the wording of the instructions that confused me. I thought they were two different things, but I guess not, so it’s good.
