Elk's 2024

Just got the message I’ve proceeded to the state level of Elk’s (quarter finalist)! Is there an Elks 2024 thread created yet? I couldn’t find one. And how prestigious / impressive is the quarterfinalist round and the resulting rounds? I’m wondering if putting quarterfinalist on my resume would be impressive, or not really.

Can u link to it ? Never heard of it.

Congrats tho - would be interested to learn more about the program.

Thx.

Good luck to OP.

And no to the resume. If you win, then sure.

Congrats! My daughter received that news today too! It’s hard to know the numbers for various rounds except finals, but I did find an article from April 2023 that indicates 22,000+ applications overall.

I got this too! I’ve been wondering the same thing. Have you found anything online because I haven’t really

Honestly not a lot of information…I’m assuming more will become available if we proceed to the finalist round?

If you get selected, fine. Until then, you are still an applicant. I would not think this should be added to your application.

Look at it this way. This is for a scholarship.

This does not change anything you’ve accomplished, what you’ve done. This is an award (if you win) for doing those things.
If you win, it will likely reduce a need aid component from a school.

It’s fantastic if you win. Maybe it’s on your college resume for a job.

But it’s not going to impact an admissions decision because it’s not a new, significant accomplishment in that sense.

But it’s a great way to bring more assuredness for paying for college since you don’t know what type of aid you’ll get.

Are there semifinalist rounds? I haven’t seen anything about them, only a finalist round and then something with the top 20 people. I’m just aiming for the finalist round because I think thats the earliest you can get money

Semi-finals – appears to be the 480 students who make the nationals level but not the Top 20. Here’s what’s on their website:

The 2024 MVS Leadership Weekend will be held April 11-14 in Chicago. The Top 20 scholars, selected from the 500 national semi-finalists, will receive an invitation to the weekend and scholarships of $30,000. The 480 runners-up will receive scholarships of $4,000. Attendance at Leadership Weekend is required to be part of the Top 20 cohort and receive $30,000.

It looks like they are using transcripts to verify at the state level for this round. The quarterfinals email says this: we will notify you of the results of the State level judging via email by February 22. So there must be some sort of narrowing at the state level before semi-finals.

Dug a little deeper in the MVS Portal – found this in FAQ:

Q: What are the levels and details of the contest?
A: They are as follows:

  • Applications must advance through local, district and state levels to reach the national competition.
  • A student can apply for, but cannot accept, more than one Elks National Foundation scholarship or grant in any one academic year. Legacy Awards and Emergency Educational Grants are the other scholarships offered by the ENF.
  • For details and eligibility, visit elks.org/scholars.
*** In January, Quarter Finalists are required to upload their transcript.**
*** The 500 National Semi-Finalists will be notified by email in late March 2024.**
  • National Semi-Finalists are required to submit updated application information, their FAFSA Submission Summary, an essay and a teacher’s evaluation.
  • Following the National Semi-Finalist application deadline, the top 20 national finalists will be selected to attend a mandatory Leadership Weekend. The 2024 MVS Leadership Weekend will be held in Chicago on April 11-14, 2024.

Anyone have news? Got a state level congrats for state award. I think that means progress toward the national level. I wonder when people will need to submit the next essay, FAFSA, and teacher evaluation?
