Elon University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

We applied from a rigorous, gpa deflation school and no test scores and was accepted EA with merit if that helps. 3.7 weighted gpa

Oh my goodness, this gives me hope, thank you so much for responding! Congrats!

Touring next week but unfortunately it is self-guided with spring break. I really think it’ll be a good fit for her, so hope I’m not sabotaging it with her first view being less action.

your welcome! I know it can be frustrating looking at all of these high gpas if you come from a high school that really does not inflate them. We also toured last year over spring break with the campus empty- it was still beautiful!

You’re spot on, it is hard to not to feel defeated, and also hard to get a sense of where you fall in it all. The upside, I think they’ll be very prepared for the rigor of college.

Great to hear on tour too, really appreciate your responses.

It’s a crapshoot. Kids with lower stats than others got merit and some super high stats were deferred. GPA is definitely not the only factor, and it seemed that kids in NC faired worse with the predictability, perhaps because Elon offered free apps to NC students, so tons applied.
Mine was high stats and initially was accepted but got no merit, but then appealed and got presidential. But she was not asked for interviews to honors or fellows. Odd as she was accepted into every honors college and given top merit at every state school in NC (except UNC - accepted, but didn’t apply to honors), including UNC that only offers honors to 500 kids out of 10,000 applicants. Love the school that loves you back - mine is headed to UNC-Chapel Hill this fall.

Did she apply for honors and fellows? There were essays required, not invite only.

Yes, she (and I) were well aware of the process. Her essays for both were very strong (as were those invited, I am sure). I think the competition from within the state is very high for those interview spots.

I just got an email with an “updated financial aid offer.” I just looked at it and it’s the same $10k presidential scholarship offer. People keep saying that Elon is great because it has a lower sticker price than most institutions but that’s a sad bottom line. We are dual-income, solidly upper-middle-class, have quite a bit socked away in 529s, and will not qualify for need-based aid . . . but I would still not be ok paying $63k a year tuition/R&B. Yikes.

Hi, to appeal, did you or is she reach out to financial aid for that or the admissions rep directly and supply any statistics to back up the request? I am glad yours landed someplace great for her!

Anyone heard about fellows? They are out on spring break next week, so I would think we would hear by Friday
? Also do they email or do kids have to check portal?

So originally it was 4/1 and 5/1 if you are an alternate. Someone told me during the zoom a few days ago, they are hoping for Tuesday.

Apply early with a kick-ass recommendation and essay. My s24 had a crap gpa, high test scores and amazing extras with recommendations. He was deferred and the accepted.

Fellows decisions are out! My daughter was named as an alternate, but they did give her an additional merit scholarship in the event she is not ultimately named as a Fellow.

how did she receive the fellows decision? email or portal?

My son was accepted as a college fellow. He didn’t get an email, but saw chatter in one of the student groups and checked his portal. Congrats to those accepted and I love to see that they extended additional merit to your daughter, @mindyweber!

S24 got honors fellow!! I’m so excited for him!!! I just hope he chooses to go here :crossed_fingers:t2: He still wants to visit GW. But by my math GW should be about $100k more over four years (assuming 5% annual expense increase) which can’t be worth it. :grimacing:

D in as a College fellow, I love Elon but I think she is going to end up elsewhere. So hopefully that frees up a spot.

One of the metrics we use in our college decision making process is post-grad outcomes, especially employment - % of students employed, typical employers for the intended major and salary range/median salaries. While their First Destinations reports address some of these (at the university level and not major), it is missing salary info. Does Elon address this at their day-long phoenix events?

Maybe you can ask the head of your child’s department. Elon graduates are teachers, journalists, Broadway actors, physician assistants, accountants and investment bankers. Kind of hard to generalize across the board. For the business school, they told us that most grads do not stay in the south.
