Elon University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

My D visited, spoke with several area ambassadors, did several webinars and emailed the AO about five times over the course of two years. She built a pretty good relationship with the AO and was one of the few to get a personal phone call with EA acceptance. She isn’t super high stats, I think they like the 3.8- 3.9 kids that have strong ECs and enthusiasm

With things being as competitive as they are, and the merit being relatively low (if not accepted into honors or fellows), if that’s really the number one choice, not sure to suggest gambling with it. Could always reach out to financial aid if gets in ED to ask for something, if not given upfront. …

Their kids don’t live there during the school year?

No, the kids live on campus. The parents of the athletes frequently attended games, chipped in and either stay at this house or rent it as an Air BNB.

My daughter had her virtual interview for the accelerated PT program yesterday. I don’t know if fellows interviews are similar, but hers was very brief. The interviewer (the admissions person for the program) asked her 4 questions and then left it open for my daughter to ask questions. They said she would hear in about 2 weeks.

Does she remember what they asked? Were the questions specific to her major or more general? My daughter has a Zoom interview next week and I am curious. Thanks!

She told me what they asked - seemed kind of specific to physical therapy and some situation questions (what would you do if…).

Chiming in. My daughter was accepted EA with a small 5k scholarship. We received a ‘personal’ email inviting her to apply for the odyssey program (extensive essays)but she then was not even selected for an interview. She applied for another one (fellows) and was not selected either, Of all of the schools she has applied to she has put countless hours into Elons scholarship opportunities but then did not get anything or even an interview. We were considering submitting for one of the scholars programs but she is a bit disheartened. Whats interesting to me is so many other excellent institutions offered 20+ of merit based on her initial application. Elon is the only school that offers a small initial merit and then has you writing loads of essays and applying for all these programs to try and get more money. I know they are trying to solidify their best class but it is a bit frustrating imo. I know someone who accepted ED and the family can readily pay 55k after the small scholarship she received. So she accepted and is attending. We can’t swing that so put in extensive efforts to get more money with no luck. Good Luck to all. Thanks for this thread-its been helpful.

Keep in mind that Elon is $20k+ less than most private institutions, so that is part of why there isn’t tons of merit given off the top. Their other programs are truly special programs, not just merit given to attract people, so they need the essays and such to decide on people. That said, I am shocked and annoyed at the number of people I’ve seen on boards who had no idea an interview was part of the procedure and were then made they had to go and fly to it. People really need to be aware of what they are applying for! We were also annoyed at the “special invites” and then not being considered (or qualified!). Mine also got something to apply for Odyssey (through her counselor from AO) and we definitely don’t qualify based on income, which the AO should have known through our CSS. Thankfully we read the details and didn’t apply.

Similar frustrations here. My best advice if she really wants to go there, is to reach out to financial aid to ask about increasing the scholarship. They might send it back to the rep but maybe it would be enough to help?

Just my two cents. I believe the Fellows programs should not be seen as scholarship opportunities. They are really about the content of the programs. Yes, they come with a little bit of money (Honors comes with a meaningful amount) and they can come with amazing opportunities (my kid went to Dubai with her group). But the value of the Fellows programs comes with the education and experience. To be sure, there are very few true scholarship options at Elon.

We enjoyed Saturday at the Scholarship Weekend. It was all well run and everyone was friendly! Hope everyone else enjoyed their day! DS24 waiting on a couple more pieces of info (and one campus tour at JMU) before making a decision, but Elon seems like a good fit for him.

When do final decisions for fellows come out?

4/1. But if named an alternate, then 5/1.

Make it make sense . . …

Deferred EA which sent her into a tailspin as it was in her top 3 and the one where her stats (UW 4.0, 1550 SAT) were well above.

Now she’s been accepted regular decision . . . and offered $10k “Presidential.”

This game is exhausting.

Probably others have dropped out and the Presidential money is available- but, they missed out on Honors and Fellows interview weekend.

It is a game and it is exhausting!

who knows! but since you asked to try and make sense, I’d guess that your daughter was considered likely to go elsewhere, given her well above average stats and the fact that she applied EA. I’m sure if she applied ED she’d have been accepted instantly. Once you did not withdraw your app, that told them she did not get in ED anywhere else and therefore was still “on the market”

I have an S24 but have been peeking in this thread for D25. Any tips for a lower gpa from rigorous deflation school with high test score. Apply early?
