Elon University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

DS24 got some money in his acceptance and is signed up for the Fellows weekend. But the Presidential is MORE than the Fellows!

We did not receive any merit in the initial acceptance letter. New letter said “after further review” etc $10,000/year scholarship. Still waiting on FA however.

Oh odd, this was the first time she received merit and it was the $10k Presidential. She just assumed they were sending it out to people who didn’t respond to the interview weekend. She wasn’t going for Fellows, though, she was going for accelerated pathways.

Some got initially and some got this week. Mine got it in her rejection for Fellows letter. Not enough, and not willing to play the game for the next few months, so she committed to UNC.

Great commit. Congrats!

Anyone heading there for Admitted Student Day on March 15th? Weren’t invited to Fellows so that made the choice easier to make the one trip.

We are going to one of them in April - we’re debating whether to go to regular admitted students day or the Phoenix Fusion weekend on 4/19. Just trying to figure out how various admitted students visits will fit with golf season!

Can anyone tell me if there are hotel rooms reserved for the Phoenix Friday on April 19th through the university?

I don’t think the Inn on campus holds a block of rooms for the events, but couldn’t hurt to call them and ask.

You are correct- there are only around 80 rooms and go fast for large events on campus. The last time I checked for a move in weekend, there was a night that was $929!

Some soccer parents were tired of paying for hotels and bought a house near campus they rent as an Airbnb

I have a 2025 and we just visited this weekend and he loved Elon! We need a little merit, at least, to make it affordable. Probably won’t qualify for much FA. He’s got a 3.91 UW, 1420 SAT/32 ACT. Taking SAT again in April (only because it’s required by our state for juniors in Spring).

For those of you who were accepted, did you see more merit with ED or EA? He will likely apply for the honors program and maybe for the Data Analytics fellowship. But I’m mostly curious about the Presidential Scholarship. Thanks!

We were ED. I do not know anyone who was ED that received the Presidential because you are already committed to going. I feel like they save the Presidential for who might need more convincing to going there and are looking at other options. But maybe someone who is ED will comment otherwise. Good Luck!

My daughter got a 10k presidential offer in her EA acceptance letter.

I wouldn’t count on any of those, but I also wouldn’t count them out. Mine had a 3.9 GPA (4.44w) and 34 ACT (along with some impressive extracurriculars and strong essays) and initially was awarded nothing. We were pretty shocked, given they say it’s given to the top 15% of the class, and they’d been awarded merit at all other schools, but others with similar stats were deferred, so at least that didn’t happen. Was also passed over for honors and fellows, but after an appeal, was given the presidential scholarship. They had an insane amount of applicants for the honors and fellows programs this year, and I am guessing they may have even more next year. Essays are REALLY important, so spend a lot of time on all of them.

My DD got a $10k presidential award with her EA acceptance. She has a 4.0 UW with all honors and a number of AP classes, good extracurriculars, and excellent recommendations (she goes to a small private school).

Keep in mind, outside of any need based scholarships, $10k presidential is the top merit scholarship awarded with admission. Any additional $$ comes with scholars and fellows programs, which, from what I understand, are very competitive.

My D had a 3.85/4.1 no test but great state level ECs and tons of demonstrated interest. She received presidential. She’s in the running for Fellows now. It probably also helped that we are from Oregon, I think they want geographical diversity.

Good point! They give free apps for NC residents which I think made things crazy for NC residents getting presidential, honors invite and fellows invite. DD knows a lot of kids who applied for all of those even though they have no intention of going (which really is not ok). Friend literally said, it’s my backup to Vanderbilt, UNC and NC State.

Did any of your kids make up their minds after attending one of the Phoenix Friday sessions? We haven’t visited yet (other than a drive by on our own) and want to get the most bang for our buck but can’t visit before the late April session. Wondering is an admitted student day would be good enough

Yes, this is the concern (mass applications from kids who have no intention of attending). We are from the Midwest, but outside Chicago, so not rural or anything. He’s higher stats, but does NOT want highly selective and at the moment, Elon is his first choice by a lot. So ED would prevent him from getting deferred I think, but I think EA appears to be the way to go for money. That, plus show as much demonstrated interest as possible. Thank you all!
