Does anyone have personal experience with the Teaching Fellows program? D24 (who was admitted EA but rejected for Honors) just applied to be in the Teaching Fellows program after a specific email invite from the director of that program. would be curious to know if others enjoyed the program, whether it comes with merit aid, etc.
DS, sports management major with 3.9/4.0 UW, 1520 SAT, 5 APs, Varsity Athlete with strong ECs admitted with merit.
DS was admitted EA. We were expecting some merit but none was added. DS is not interested in Honors or Fellows programs so did not apply. He really liked the school but we have other options to consider at this point that seem better value but would certainly visit and maybe commit to Elon if the tuition/fees were $8-10K less than full pay. Is there any possibility of merit as we get closer to commit date without having to write additional essays?
It sounds like Elon is giving merit out differently this year, perhaps due to an increase in applications. My daughter was admitted EA last year and was given the presidential scholarship right in her admittance letter. This definitely helped sell our family on the school (though we had a feeling it would be her first choice all along).
My D was not a high stats kids compared to many on CC. About a 3.6 with good (but not top) rigor. We are in the North East. Her high school has a history of sending 7-10 kids to Elon every year, and I think Elon knows that there is a decent shot that kids in this GPA range from her school may actually attend.
She LOVES Elon. Has thrived socially and academically (finished her first semester with her first ever 4.0!)
I am wondering if kids who were not offered merit this year are from high schools that donāt typically send many kids to Elon? I canāt think of any reason that Elon would pass up high achieving kids, except to protect their yield.
My daughter was similar last year (didnāt attend but S25 is interested). Weāre on the west coast and I always wondered if maybe D23 was given merit because of that. I thought maybe Elon was trying to decrease their numbers of Northeasterners. So, who knows what the magic formula is!
Similar profile here as well but with high test scores. A few kids from his school attend every year so we were expecting merit aid. We think DS will do well in a smaller school and this is one of the few he liked. Oh well! Their lossā¦
Definitely think there is yield protection. We are in NC, and a free app code was given so TONS of kids applied. Mine is so annoyed because a few of her (lower stats) friends got merit and have NO intention of going there. Sheād LOVE to go there and didnāt. When we called, we were told that her stats should have qualified her, so weāre hoping sheāll be offered it later now that they know she is serious about going there.
Mom of a current Elon frosh who would love Business Fellows (but started with a different major so did not apply). How did that come about? Did he ask or was he just hand selected and approached.
Got a letter in the mail ( maybe email? Donāt recall) after frosh grades came out.
Anyone know when fellows announcements come out?
Thanks! I hope that happens to my D this year. She is thinking about transferring and that might keep her at Elon.
Have her try to get into the Business fraternity, AKPsi. Even if she isnt admitted this year, try again in the fall. It really helps a lot with internships.
Also have her check out the on campus job opportunities. There are some gems.
I will push her to do it.
She has been doing that. She has an interview for one tomorrow. She applied to another one that I really hope she gets, but she hasnāt heard yet.
I believe the site and webinars said early February.
From an email they sent:

| April 1, 2024 | Awards released |
Any potential yield protection would come into play when considering whether to accept or not. If yield protection were a concern when it comes to financial aid, a school would offer more aid to more accepted students to increase yield.
Same issue here, D is a soph now and did end up getting some money for being from NC.
Sorry - mistyped!
