<p>I got a letter stating that “Tulsa is the best college for National Merit Finalists, like you.” Do colleges already know if we’re semifinalists or commended, or are they just assuming I’ll be a Finalist? I’m just wondering because I think I’m pretty borderline for my state (IL–I got a 213), so I don’t understand how they can already make that assumption.</p>

<p>It looks like they got a report of all students who scored above “x” on the PSAT. Finalists won’t be announced until early next year - semifinalists haven’t even been notified yet.</p>
<p>Kinda reminds me of when my daughter took the PSAT. Around the time the scores were being released, she received a postcard from Skidmore that said “FAIL” - we were wondering if they knew something she didn’t! Later we found out that Skidmore sends out a series of postcards with unusual words on them.</p>
