In my application for “School X”, I mentioned that I will consider staying back 1 year as a sophmore so that I have more time to fit into the community. They said they will review my application and see which is more suitable for me. Months later, I received an email saying they feel I will do better as a sophmore and asked me whether I still want to continue this option. I said yes.

Probably a good sign, but reading tea leaves is difficult! They were probably looking at your academics, age etc., and just trying to determine if you were adequately prepared. Private schools tend to have an older average age and to be a bit more accelerated.

I think it could be a good sign, or it could be just a check to make sure that you wanted to do it to see if they were going to look at your application against others applying for sophomore year or against others applying for junior year.

Lol middlesex…your amusing. If you got it recently its a good sign. They wouldn’t both asking if you were in the “Reject” pile. Cuz it wouldn’t matter.
