Email from admissions person

Yo people,

I just got an e-mail from a person who read my app. The e-mail was VERY personalized, talking about my interests and my essay and whatnot. I was rather taken aback by this, and felt kinda bad too since I'm almost positive I'm gonna end up at Middlebury.

I just want to know, how many of you got e-mails too? Is this common procedure at Oberlin?

I personally have not received an email of this sort, but over the past few weeks, many people have received various things like this; letters from various academic departments, emails such as these, some people even had early acceptances.

I would say it's certainly a good thing, and that admission is likely for you.

Oh yea, I got letters from their physics and philosophy departments too, but I figured that to be standard procedure, since I expressed interest in those fields. But early acceptances? That's snazzy.

Hmm...anyone else have any personal testimonies of all this?

I got something like that and got into Oberlin. I think it's probably a good sign because I got some of those for the schools I got into but none for the schools I was rejected by!

I'm feeling worried now, lol.

I had an amazing interview with an Oberlin alum, and have a pretty nice application to the school, but I haven't received any letters from any departments, nor an email such as this. Then again, I don't think I marked a specific academic department that I like. Still...I hope I get in!

I did not get any email like tht too regarding my app, but I am trying to remain optimistically hopeful :).

My daughter received a very personal e-mail from the first reader of her application at Oberlin. This was far more personal than anything received from any of the other 11 schools she applied to. We also talked to this counselor upon visiting campus about a week ago - and she clearly remembered some details about my daughter's application. Daughter has not been admitted, was told not to expect anything until around April 1 and really was not given any indication about the likelihood of admission. We are optimistic however.

I recieved some stuff for depts. that I showed interest in but I agree that it is most likely common precedure. But don't overthink it. There's nothing we can do now but wait.

yep, i got one. . . it made me feel special. ^_^

damn..I wish I got one of those. Guess all we can do is wait...

i got a letter today! yay i hope this means good things. Is this equivalent to a likely letter or is it just a ploy to get applicants to think more strongly about Oberlin?...and then be rejected later.

Has anyone who has already been through this process/know what it means telll us about their experience with this letter? Thanks!

I got an email saying they were looking forward to reading my application...after I had already received my ED acceptance letter. But it's the thought that counts!

I got one of these too. I wouldn't be worried if you didn't get one though- I think there are different admissions people assigned to different applications (maybe regional?) so maybe some of them send emails and some don't. I'm just guessing though.

FWIW, I applied ED, had no contact from Oberlin after I applied, and got in. So if you're an RD candidate and haven't heard anything, it's not necessarily a bad sign.

Yes, I recieved an e-mail regarding specific things on my app. They were actually requesting more information- i.e., can you tell us more about this activity? I think it's a good sign... they said they are beginning to wrap up the review of app.s. nervous

i have never got anything like that. it's so sad.

I got a email saying they havent received my oberlin essay...

What are you going to do? Is it too late?

Ajayc, actually the exact same thing happened to me around the 5th of February. I got an e-mail from an admissions person saying they hadn't received my supplement. I went to the Commonapp site and just double-checked everything, and e-mailed them back saying, I had in fact sent everything on December 9th. I got an email the next day saying they had found my supplement and apologizing for any inconvenience. Are you also from India?

So, if you have sent it, they will probably locate it. It's strange though that they contacted you still late, which means that applications are still under review!

Okay...I applied as a Sociology major, but I got a letter from the English department. So I'm guessing that it's just a random thing they send to everyone, then.
