Emailing Admissions Counselors?

I recently toured a few schools over break and specifically fell in love with GW and SDSU. I’ve heard that expressing interest by touring and emailing admissions counselors increases your chances of acceptance, so I was wondering what these emails typically consist of? I don’t have any specific questions about either school at the moment, but want to “express interest.”

You can google a school’s Common Data Set and check section C7’s “Level of applicant’s interest” to see if it makes a difference.

few publics care about demonstrated interest. What will be important at SDSU is whether you live in their Local Service Area.

As to emailing admissions, contact them when you have a question that will affect your decision to choose that college after you’ve been unable to find the answer online. Adcoms have full-time jobs and don’t want to hear from kids writing in what is obviously an attempt to get ahead of the other applicants.

At the very least, it’s courteous to send a thank you to anyone you spoke to on your tour.
