Emailing Colleges about SAT Scores?

Hello, first I’d like to say I’m new to this site and have enjoyed it a lot so far
I just took the Math II and Physics tests and got the scores back, however I’d like to notify Cornell, Yale and Chicago specifically about the scores. Reason being that while I did fine I left my calculator in my car and didn’t realize it until was in the test room and they wouldn’t let me get it or use a different one. So I know I would have done better with one on the Math II.

Is there any way to notify the schools that I didn’t do as well as I could have, preferably without sounding desperate or pathetic, and if so what address or people and what should I say? Or possibly be deferred based on the score and retake it at a later date? Keep in mind that I am a senior and don’t have time to retake them for regular decision at most schools. Thanks for any help.

you can do it, but frankly it will just drag attention to a bad part of your application, plus I doubt it will change the way cornell adcoms look at your scores.

Alright, I can see that. Do they use subject tests for admissions decisions much, or is it mostly for placement?

It factors into admissions but it’s not as important as SAT I or GPA. Definitely don’t send a whiny e-mail. It sucks that you left your calculator in your car, but that’s not the sort of excuse colleges will want to hear.

Just imagine opening such an email as an adcom. It would sound like an excuse, wouldn’t it?

Well it is an excuse, but I see your point. I guess I just won’t worry about it then. Thanks for the help.
