Hey, I have kind of a dumb question that is really bothering me.
In my common app and Princeton essay, I made the point that where I come from, no one applies to good colleges. (I said it more eloquently). Our school only sends about one or two kids every few years to US NEWS Top 25. (I also did not say that directly.) I did, however, make the claim that no one is applying further than 200 miles away for a four-year college. Unfortunately, there is one person that changed their mind and is applying to University of Puget Sound. I live in small-town Minnesota, so obviously this makes that claim false. Will Harvard, Princeton, and Cornell call to find out if this is true? Should I warn my counselor what I meant by my words? Keep in mind, this is the same counselor that I had to explain what a deferral was. (Deffered MIT) Other than that, I thought the essay was decent. If anyone is interested in reading the whole thing, I would be thrilled to email it and look for opinions.
<p>I really doubt they will call your school. And even if they do, if it was truthful when you sent in the application that’s all that really matters. They really can’t hold you accountable for something that is out of your control after you already sent in your application.</p>
<p>DId you learn something? I tell my Ds to never write absolutes- so no always, nevers, noone, everyone, etc…I am writing this as a gentle reminder…you will be fine, life changes, and Never stays the same</p>

<p>Oh no! 4.37 people applied to 4 year colleges, not 3.55! Clearly you must be rejected now!</p>
<p>They would not hold it against you. You are not in a position to know the details of all of your classmates’ applications. The college also would be looking at your school profile and perhaps even talking to your GC to find out about your school. The colleges particularly are likely to do this if they haven’t had other applicants from your school.</p>
<p>If you had said something like, “I am the only person in my class applying to college,” that would be obviously a blatant lie. What you said doesn’t sound like you deliberately lied, and does seem to give a reasonably clear picture of what your school is like.</p>
<p>Thanks, my reasoning behind my essay was that I am proud to say I was not conditioned to apply to Ivies. I discovered it on my own, and this big dream of mine distinguishes me from my classmates. And yes, I did learn a lesson.</p>
<p>The colleges will know because along with the GC sends to the colleges the High school profile which talks about the rigor of the curriculum, sometimes the average SAT, how or if GPA/Rank is calculated, grading structure what percent of the senior class graduated, percentage that attend 2 year schools , 4 year schools and the colleges that students from your high school are admitted to.</p>

good luck on all your apps! My husband was born in Virginia - I’ve been through some of those small towns (at least in the north). See if you can get a copy of your HS profile. The dichotomy between it and the rest of your app will speak for itself, and I suspect that you will do just fine.</p>

<p>yup im doing this too, little things like “will the adcomms read the entire email i sent to admissions, or just the part that need corrected?” Type A personalities suck.</p>
<p>Anyways, think of it this way, would you want to go to a school that checks tiny details like that?</p>
<p>I’m not really sure what my counselor sent. She might have had her secretary send some things. This is the same secretary that I had to argue with over the difference between University of Chicago and University of Illinois - Chicago. I can’t babysit my school.</p>
