What is really Eminence Fellowship and Scholar at the Ohio State University (Please this information, I had collected independently, this is not from Ohio State if you need accurate information I advise you to contact the University directly)?
This scholarship is the cream of the crops very similar to other Universities major scholarship for example, The Jefferson Scholarship at University of Virginia, Park Scholar at North Carolina State, Presidential Scholarship at University of Iowa. I believed Eminence Scholar was started about 6 or 7 years ago relatively young compared to Jefferson and other scholarships from other Universities. However, I believed Ohio State is trying to retaining, attracting, identifying, candidates within the State (approx. 85% or greater) and out of State (15% or less) (last year they have selected 16 scholars within the State of Ohio, and 4 scholars out of State) who shows outstanding achievement in academic, individual with extraordinary intellectual range and depth and highest quality of leadership ability and citizenship etc.
How competitive Eminence Scholar is? It is the same competitiveness as other major scholarship stated above. 1. The University processing, and selecting the semi-finalist it could be or approx. 200 or greater/less, 2. The University selecting the finalist, last year approximately 75 finalists were selected out of approx. 300 semifinalists or less/greater.
What types of students applied to this program? Who are they? What are their backgrounds?
Based, on previous individual personal information were post, and other information that I have read about the program. I came to a conclusion these kids are extraordinary students, I mean all the finalists. They either a founder/presidents of a club, participating in sports, taking many AP courses, or completed general studies AA degree in Community College, Second runner up in National Math competition, First in National Champion in Speech, member of National Honor Society etc etc etc. These kids I don’t think they have ever received B’s in High School or Middle Schools some of them have been admitted to three or more ivy league colleges. Some of the kids opted out and choose Ohio for the full ride and no debt after 4 years, some received perfect score on both ACT and SAT, some have D1 sport scholarship and they have also opted out. I believed these students could have other form of scholarships from other University. Some of these students they might opt out or accept the Eminence.
How are the Fellows doing in Ohio State? I remember reading some information, from one of the Fellows she recalled talking to others alumnus and alumna of Ohio State at home (she is out of State student) and 100% of these alumnus and alumna were very happy and proud of the education and friends they have met at the University. She is happy with her choice for college and the program is very demanding, and the University wants or expecting a lot from the students so everyone have to maintain a GPA of 3.5, they have to thinking about research project and civic group project etc. Overall she is happy with her program.
@tweetie1 I talked with my daughter…turns out she did not take 15 classes just 15 AP tests some classes are for two tests…still kinda cool after all she has been through.
I really hope she get some form of scholarship or full ride at Ohio, it is a wonderful school, for what I heard. All honor students are housing together. There are many scholarships that she could stacking it up, she doesn’t have to be in the Eminence Scholarship. What I heard Eminence Fellows and Scholars most of them completed their degrees between 3 to 4 years, with high honor. For those they applied to medical schools I believed 100% successful getting in, to name a few of those medical schools were; 1. Northwestern, 2. Harvard, 3. John Hopkins, 4. Standford, 5. Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine etc. This basically, demonstrated the quality of these students. It doesn’t matter if they’re in Eminence or in other form of honor scholarship, students are outstanding. Not only they get in to medical school but I also heard students received Rhodes scholar, fullbright scholar to study in Oxford University and other different Universities in UK. What making these big Universities like Ohio State, Uni of Minnesota, Iowa State, Wisconsin etc unique they have varieties of major range from Farm Animals, Agriculture, Horticulture, Engineering, Food, Nutrition you name it they will have major for that field, compare to others Universities most Universities don’t have Agriculture, or Forestry, landscape etc .it does not mean they’re bad but it is depend on what you really want out of the University. The Honor classes they are around 23 to 25 students, that is small class size. For the world prospective and the Global economic they are power house that is my personal view of it anyway.
Has anyone who applied on November 1 heard back yet?
My daughter applied in October…she has been accepted to the school, honors and received scholarships but no word from Eminence Fellows as yet.
@1happypappy How long after her acceptance did the scholarships and Honors offers arrive? I just got accepted into the last wave (December 14th), so I’m hoping for something… I also applied for Eminence. Also, congrats to your daughter!
@SterlingWolf
My daughter was accepted on November 17th,
email regarding Honors was received on November 30 at 11pm,
letter regarding scholarship received December 15th by snail mail.
Does anyone know if OSU requires the mid-year report for eminence?
I would like to send my congratulations to all who got in to Ohio State, I believe the Eminence invitation letters should comes out between January and February 1st week. The interview is in march. For those who have received scholarship now, be prepare more scholarship they might offer again for your son/daughter.
I am not an employee of the OSU but I believe, all academic reports should be sent in together with the application within the due date in Nov. If the processing found out that you have miss any paper they should have reaching out to the student via email (regarding mid-year).
Personal advise for the orientation and interview days. Orientation day: make sure to get all the information regarding what is cover and what is not cover by the scholarship in term of housing (single, double etc), different food plan again what is cover and what is not cover, healthcare/dental plan, books, technology fees and other fees, for the out of State students ask about transportation to the airport and shopping near the U etc etc. Also important on the orientation Fellows will displayed their research or projects what they’re working on please go through and asking questions about their projects, asking them how to join if you get in to the eminence, any tip about the interview etc etc these students are your resources to prep. for your interview. On the dinner ( I heard from previous students that everyone will be assigned a table with one professor within your intent major plus two or one Eminence Fellow(s)), 1. be yourself 2. be polite 3. show interest on current fellow’s works etc, ask questions about the eminence program, talk to the professor’s about his or her work, 3. ask the professor what are the opportunity for you in that intent major 4. Tell him/her a little bit about yourself and why you choose that major, if you have done research or intern before talk about that and your experience etc etc, sometime it might be he/she ( professor) will be your interviewer the next day. Good luck
Just curious if anyway has heard when/how finalists will be notified this year?
Not yet. My daughter applied about 17 minutes before the deadline. And haven’t heard 1 way or the other.
This is probably a futile question, but it told me I’d be notified “Week of 1-12-19.” Does that mean this week or next week? Not sure if anybody knows but I figured I’d asked anyway, lol. This wait though…
@baseball3518 I know your pain…I have no idea when we will hear about a decision either. Been obsessively checking email everyday!
I just called to check and see if there was an update. They said info should be mailed in the next 2 weeks.
Will it be by mail or email?
