I can hardly envision the courage of Simeon Wright as a young boy when he testified at the trial of the men accused of his cousin’s murder. And the words of his uncle, an iconic Mississippi wrinkled old soul, who stood…yes stood up in the witness stand, pointed at one of the defendants and declared “…there he!” May we never forgot these two souls. May God eternally watch over their spirits with favor.
So brave. Rest in Peace, Mr. Wright.
The Emmett Till story is one of the most horrible in our history.
We recently went to the African-American Museum in DC, and they had a whole exhibit on Emmett Till, including the casket he was originally buried in. It was quite moving, especially when I realized that he was only a few years older than me, but had been murdered so long ago at such a young age.
