Emory and Henry??

Does anyone know anything about this school in VA. I know that it is very small. GC thinks it would be a good match.

Right, that’s the first school John Emory founded, before the whole awkward thing with Henry got outed and he ran away to Atlanta to start another one.

Seriously, the “Emory” is indeed the same Bishop John Emory who is the namesake of Emory University. “Henry” is Patrick Henry, patriot. E&H sounds interesting, it’s one of Loren Pope’s 40 Colleges that Change Lives.

By the way, it’s “Emory & Henry College”, not “Emory and Henry College”. Seems they are very fussy about that ampersand.

Eh, really? What are your stats? I live in Northern VA, where we consider any school other than UVA and William and Mary as not too great. From what I have heard, and looked at through the stats, it is not the best school. It nothing special, and if you are applying out of state, why? You can find an equally good school in your own state without as much tuition. However, I am not an expert on all VA schools, and I would be a fool to tell you not to look further…

I’ve met E&H graduates over the years and I have been very impressed with their acumen. E&H has a pretty good placement rate at UVA Law.

That’s the thing about Pope’s “40 Colleges” list. Almost by definition (with exceptions such as Reed) they are schools whose “stats” supposedly belie their quality.
