Emory Class of 2024 Thread!

Accepted! I am actually shocked. 33 ACT, no subject tests, 4.53 GPA, good but not great ECs, solid essays that really conveyed a passion for my interests (writing and film). So excited to be attending Emory next year! Congratulations to all of those who were accepted, and for those who weren’t, I know that you will find the perfect school for you!

Accepted

1370 SAT
13 APs (mostly 4s and 5s)
95/100 GPA
President of Chinese speaking club and VP of Japanese language and culture club
okay essays (good topic but some typos)

Congrats to all accepted!

Congrats to all of you! Me and the other ED1 kids are so excited to meet you guys. Join the Facebook group

Does anyone know when regular decision notifications come out?

xxxxx

Hi I applied to Emory RD and I got an email today from the department of music asking if I could submit extra vocal recordings so I could be considered for their music programs. I mentioned in both my common app/emory supplements that I’m really into theater/singing so this request wasn’t totally out of the blue. Did anyone else get this email/Does this mean anything in regards to me being admitted?

DD got one in December from the Technical theater department for similar type stuff. Haven’t heard anything back about it though…any insight into when Emory/Oxford scholars notifications come out?

@theatergeek666 I know several students who were rejected ED after sending a supplement. They send the request to anyone who expresses high interest in music/dance/vocals on their app. I personally didn’t submit mine because I felt like my instrument skills would hurt me more than help me (lol). I was still admitted ED. I suggest you do it! I got the notification very late, so that’s another reason why I didn’t have time to complete my supplement. RD is definitely more competitive so it would probably help

@cothhcalummom scholars is by late feb. last year it came out the 20th. No official date yet

Any RD’s on here? My D applied RD and we are not as familiar with Emory as other schools but was recommended in the 11th hour by one of her teachers. We are trying to schedule a visit prior to decisions. Not sure if worth the expense as it does not seem like they consider demonstrated interest. Any thoughts??

RD here! We didn’t visit but attended a local session. We were told DI not important. Also interview is not offered to everyone and not important. We visited unofficially on the weekend, and we loved the campus and Atlanta. At this point, I would wait until your DD is admitted and attend the admitted students day.

Emory does not consider demonstrated interest. They do consider “motivation to attend” and that is the bump that ED1s get.

My best advice as an alum and parent would be to wait until admitted stay, but get in a day early and do your own self tour. The admitted students days are fun, but hectic, pre-packaged, and pre-planned. The kids are more interested in interacting with potential classmates. If you get in a day early, when the campus is in a regular weekday mode, you get a better feel for Emory.

Good luck to your daughter.

@ljberkow Thank you! I think Emory is a great fit for her and I know she wishes we would have visited and been on her radar sooner. I get to Atlanta on business from time to time and years ago, was on campus, but my D has never been. It is a wonderful area and the campus is great.

I jus received an email stating that scholars decisions will be released on Feb 19 at or shortly after 6pm EST through an email

@marsillygoat, my dd has also received the email. She has applied to RD. She doesn’t even know if she has been accepted. Have you also applied RD?

@Holayetsf yes i did! if she gets accepted as a scholars finalist, it means she’s been admitted. it’s to my understanding that last year, a few people didn’t get accepted as finalists, but were still notified of an early admission. i think if neither of those happen (you aren’t chosen as a finalist at all), you just continue to be under consideration for RD as you would otherwise and find out by april 1st

The way we are reading the email, we think there are only two possible decisions in tomorrow’s email. Either you’re a finalist or you’re not. It doesn’t say that you might still be informed that you were admitted without being a finalist. I’m sure there are many students that still get in that aren’t finalists, but I don’t think they will find that out tomorrow. But maybe I’m wrong.

@collegemomjam In the past, some very high stats applicants have not gotten the scholarship but did get an offer of admission in the email.

@collegemom9 thanks! I wonder if that will be the case this year, too. There isn’t that much activity on this thread so we may not know. Good luck to everyone!

@collegemomjam they do it every year so my guess is that there will be some that get acceptances tonight without Scholars invites.
