I think it’s the first one; they tell us if we’re finalists or not
So can you still get scholars and not a finalist? Will they tell us that tonight too?
I’m not sure what you mean. They’re saying who the scholar finalists are. So no if you aren’t a finalist you don’t get the scholarship I’m pretty sure. They aren’t separate or anything it’s part of the scholars process
They identify a group of finalists, and invite them (all expenses paid for the student) to an interview weekend in Atlanta. After the interviews, they select which students will be offered the full rides, and which students will get smaller merit awards.

Can scholars expect to be admitted?
Of course scholars are admitted. As a matter of fact, pretty sure all the scholar finalists are admitted.
Got an email, not a finalist
Me either. The amount of applications was high so don’t let it discourage you. I’m sure you’re impressive ![]()
D24 is a finalist. Gobsmacked really. Looks like we have to change our spring break plans, but we are very excited for her. Does anyone know what scholars week actually entails? Very few details in the email. And for those of you that didn’t get it, you are still great candidates!!
Finalist for the Oxford Program! I love love Emory and likely wouldn’t have gotten financial aid so if this works out it would be beyond incredible. Does anyone know the breakdown of finalists that go on to become Woodruff Scholars?
Looks like there are 200 finalists total for both locations and last year there were 23 scholars. They probably offered it to more people, hopefully 40
so I would think the chance to become a scholar is 20% or less.
What is the criteria for these scholarships? My daughter applied ED2 on Jan 1st and she already missed the Nov 15 deadline.
Ahh okay - seems like a challenging road then. Thank you!
When will Emory announce RD this year?
I think the email said this year they have about 100 finalists. Good luck to you!
Do you know if they only give the “smaller merit awards” to the finalist candidates (assuming they are not selected as the Scholar at the end), or is every admitted student being considered for those smaller awards?
According to their website: “Applicants who are not selected as finalists for a program are still fully reviewed for admission under their selected application plan and will also automatically be considered for other smaller merit-based scholarships.”
So, supposedly yes, all admitted students are still considered for merit aid.
Thank you
Received mail from Admission " As you wait for your admission decisions at Emory and beyond, we want to remind you to pause and be proud of all you have accomplished so far - we have truly enjoyed getting to know all of you!
Decisions will be release by April 1, but in the mean time, here’s Mark Butt, director of admission here at the Office of Undergraduate Admission, answering some of our most asked questions about the admission process"
