Emory Common App Supplement 2012-2013

The optional essay reads “Please write exactly five sentences that best describe you”?

Boring question = boring responses? How would you attack this prompt avoiding anything contemporary. Honestly I was much more fond of the roller coaster one…

Surprisingly I find this a lot easier than the roller coaster one.

i actually prefer this one too. it may be hard to think of something that isn’t cliche, but if you can, it could be a really good essay

What Admission wants is to understand who YOU are.

Think about it for a while, and then tell them.

There is no “right” answer.

Just wondering, how did you know what the supplement was? The Common App says exactly this for me:

Emory University allows this supplement to be submitted Online.
This supplement is not yet available.

I’m actually kind of jealous at the type of questions you guys are asked in the supplement, haha. When I applied, it was the standard question “Why Emory?” type essay. I kind of like these different questions because it gives you a chance to tell more about yourself apart from your personal statement…sometimes in a way you normally wouldn’t think to (like maybe in the roller coaster one). They just want to know more about you and maybe try to see if you would be a good fit for the school or how you would fit in into the profile of the class they’ll be admitting. There really is no right or boring response if you take time to think of it.

@universalgrammar Thank you for the link! :)

Wait, how are we supposed to submit that doc?? Will the supplement be available to fill out on the common app site later?

^duh

10chars

Huh… When I write a sentence, it usually takes up about six lines. Think they’ll think I’m being a smart-alec if I submit something over a page long?

It would show a lack of creativity and would annoy them.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using CC

You’re probably right… I don’t know what to do for this topic. I’d rather write a why Emory essay, I could write an awesome one.

There is a why Emory essay. The 5 sentence thing is optional

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using CC

Personally, I’d say three lines max per sentence.

Even that is long, but if you need the words …

Looked at it, thank god. I’ll probably still do the optional essay though, ahah… I really want to show interest. But mmm, to be honest (even if it’s unfair) I think the most important part of my supplement’ll be checking the legacy box. =P
