Emory EMS

Has anyone taken the Emory EMT course to become a member of the Emory volunteer EMS service? If you have, how difficult was the time commitment for the course and the volunteer service? As a first year student, I don’t want to overload myself. Also, how selective is the application process to the program? I’d appreciate any other feedback about the program as well. Thank you!

Can some one please answer this?
I’m also considering to be Emory EMT as a first year student.

but I’ll be having two lab sciences and work study as well.

I want to know about time commitment for the course. Would it be stupid to be an EMT while I already have Work study job?

I am currently applying to Emory EMS as well! I have the same concerns as you two so I hope someone answers soon.

Hey guys, I ended up emailing the service and asking them about general scheduling stuff and time commitments. This is what they sent me…

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for your interest in the EMT Course! We haven’t finalized the schedule yet since we are still waiting on the full curriculum of the new EMT level in Georgia, Advanced EMT. The class will probably meet twice a week for four hours each with a lab day each week for around three hours. There is also usually at least one Saturday class per month that is from 8am-5pm. This is all subject to change though once we receive the final curriculum from the state. If you apply and find out that the finalized schedule doesn’t work for you, I can just pull your application for you. It’s no problem.
Time commitment for volunteering is that you are required to volunteer for at least one year after completing the course. This includes providing availability for a minimum of three eight-hour shifts per scheduling period (two weeks) and a minimum of one weekend shift every three weekends. Providing availability does not necessarily mean that you will be scheduled for each of these shifts though.
Yes, it is held in the North Decatur Building on Emory’s Main Campus.

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Thank you! Also, is it common or recommended for first year students to participate in the program? It can be quite a load added to academic courses
